  1. it looks like what happens when you bottom out a bolt and keep tightening. do the studs get run right to the bottom? never built an engine so I don't know shit, but I have cracked a case using too long of a bolt before edit: after a reread I see you guys have covered bottoming out bolts.
  2. shit I hope not as I will be ordering them for the kat. but ya zero trouble with it. I didn't even bleed the whole system, just did a cheeky bubble bleed until all the bubbles were gone and I had a solid lever. test drive showed I have enough front brake to almost bottom out the forks, or lock the front wheel
  3. hah! it is ya. its going to be a long road for that one though. I want to blast the frame, check for rust and gusset it all. so it has to come right apart. kat might see the road the end of next summer.......maybe.......:S mean time this is still a fun bike to ride
  4. I ordered a set of these to try them out. cheap enough hoped they wouldn't be too bad. well above expectations! I have never had an easier clutch pull on any of my 1100s or 1150s. and the master works really well too, lots of lever not mushy at all. I will order another set for my katana. if you don't care about the factory appearance I highly recommend these. http://r.Eblag.com/qdPPon
  5. ya you nailed it! it looks amazing.
  6. nothing new to report with this bike. I haven't made any more changes to it. I am just riding it and enjoying it until the seasons over. I am going to retrieve my katana from storage today though. stay tuned for the long drawn out rebuild thread
  7. well I have been riding it about a month now and no issues at all. I love the way it handles now that I am used to it. very happy with the end result.
  8. or you could do the factory insert style for the es in wes cooley blue
  9. maybe try and use the subtle break line for a two tone. I did that on my katana years ago to good effect (at least I think it looked good)
  10. same as what was on my 1982 gs1100e. that looks like my buddies 81 cdn kat. my 83 kat had the same style as the ef wheels.
  11. I think he may have been referring to coil recharge time. because the coil has to recharge to generate the spark twice as often with a two wire per coil unit than if each plug has its own coil then the recharge time is halved.
  12. Just back from its first shakedown cruise. It sure handles different with that 16 inch front . don't think I like the factory clip-ons either to much turn in, kinda like riding a wheel barrow . I will probably put the aftermarket clip-ons on. The front forks need some nitrogen but other than that it feels ok. the rear wheel is about 6mm offset from the front but I cant feel a difference in the turning. I will get some new spacers made though just the same. all in all I am very happy with the end result. my jbweld repair on the side cover didn't hold. what do guys use to glue those mount pins back on? jb kwik weld didn't work.
  13. this is cut and pasted from a thread by steve on gsresources all of these places carry the 4012941 and I believe some will ship to uk Polaris Parts 1 2 365.7414.9980.73 2 Wheel Pros80.106.9587.05 MotoSport71.270.0071.27free shipping over $49Bike Bandit73.948.9582.89free shipping over $99Partzilla74.0210.9584.97free shipping over $250Polaris Parts Monster74.5716.5691.13 Cycle Parts Warehouse74.5711.7886.35 Polaris Parts House69.6919.3989.08 Procaliber69.0519.9689.01free shipping over $99Nelson's Speed Shop84.9912.0096.99 Dealer Cost Parts89.9918.07103.06
  14. I will dig you up a couple of online links from gsr tomorrow and post them in this thread. I know that i saw some people in uk getting them
  15. well the reg/rec of choice on thegsresources is a series regulator not a shunt. shunt is what beats up your stator. the most common recommended is a sh775 from Polaris. careful though there is a lot of counterfeit looking ones on Eblag. it should have the Polaris part number 4012941 so you don't end up with another shunt reg/rec disguised as a series reg/rec. I ended up getting mine from a local Polaris dealer so I didn't get ripped off on Eblag.
  16. back down on the ground first time in quite a while.
  17. well, I got all the wires stuffed back into the headlight everything except the ballast for my hid headlight gonna have to balloon it or something I doubt it survives the weather otherwise. also got my new sh775 mounted and cleaned up all the bastardised wiring under the seat. relocated the fuse block to the rear mudguard for now will see how it goes. repaired the quick fix the PO did to the fuse block plug when it melted. all the wires cut and new connectors soldered on and replaced the fuse block with one that isn't all melted to shit lol. I guess the PO didn't know about eliminating the headlight shunt from the stator and had some melty moments once the connections got bad. never mind the oddball screws home depot was closed going to buy one of these for the kat as well later. happily though, my katana has never suffered from the melting fuse block wires and eating stators and reg/recs.
  18. awesome full of great info. thanks!
  19. Last summer I ran into a fellow rider on a kz1000 or kz with a gpz engine I forget which. in any case he had individual coils on his spark plugs, curious I asked him what was the deal. he said they worked pretty good and the whole set up cost him about a hun cdn on Eblag. he was banging on about reduced spark delay and whatnot, and it seemed like a reasonably good idea. any of you guys mess around with that stuff? notice any improvement? or is it just as well to buy a nice set of aftermarket coils and be done with it?
  20. I will. on both sites. not a lot to report today but my cheapo headlight brackets arrived so now I can finish up the bike. starting with getting all those wires back into the headlight bucket also my sh775 arrived so tomorrow I can start to clean up some of the wiring under the seat. need to make a mount for that regulator. its huge. contrast pic.
  21. Weapon

    Ready!!

very nice pair! love the tank paint.
  22. well then i'm going to have to find an 80 somewhere to get some measurements. I usually prefer an alum canister style muffler but that little slash cut is dead sexy
  23. that looks sharp. is that their 78-80 1000 header? I am looking at that for my 82 1100e because I am not a fan of the vance and hines style pipe they offer for mine. haven't pulled the trigger yet as I am not sure if it will fit.
