  1. Thanks for that. I've got into contact with him. Only issue is they don't have a gsx1100 Jig, so wouldn't be able to make the rear bracket that holds onto it. Bit far from me (Good 250+ Miles) so may just get it sent across and see if I can get somebody else to weld a bracket on. Don't really want to paint it as I want to retain the metalic look. Stainless steel definitely seems to be the way to go. Appreciated
  2. Need to get a set of stainless pipes made up for the GSX 1100E. Currently has the old harris 4 into 1 which i believe is solid steel; but would like to get either a stainless, or titanium set made up. Anyone have any recommendations and/or experience in doing this? Is it even worth getting the previous one rechromed/fixed? How would I go about that? I've been having a read around, but can't find anything specific regarding a similar exhaust... Happy to hear your thoughts/opinions if a possibility.
  3. Hey all. I hate to resurrect a somewhat dead thread, but thought I'd update you all. Oil leak - Was coming from the Camchain tensioner (Replaced with a manual) which rectified it, but also had others. Neutral switch - Gasket was non-existent. Replaced, no more oil. But had one more Starter motor - Undid the bolts, thing practically fell out. New O ring, back in, good as gold. No more oil leak! Everything else is pretty much spot on. I do have one other question however. Beforehand I was talking about the crankcase breather which I was told some steam is normal. I am noticing however, an excessive amount that's within said breather... any recommendations or thoughts on what could be causing this? Added video here - https://streamable.com/mkc7a Too much pressure? Tends to happen a lot when I'm having a rather spirited ride, but can't be helped. Thanks in advance as always, Baz
  4. Hey all, Finally got the Suzuki fully fixed. Oil leak was from the camchain tensioner, stator gasket and the starter motor O ring. Fuck me does she fly. Feels like a completely different bike now I can open it up properly. Peak torque at 11k RPM is absolutely insane (It literally flys) Only issue I ran into - I blew the baffle out the back when I opened it up. I spent about an hour going back down the road but couldn't find it at all. Any ideas where I can get a replacement? I've been scouring the web, but can't find anything. Part I'm on about is this here https://normanhyde.co.uk/classic-japanese/h-w-c-race-baffle.html They're sold out/don't produce them anymore, and probably won't do for a while... Or does anybody happen to have one laying around that I could purchase? Seem a bit of a rarity. so pissed off I lost it, but eh. Appreciate the help always Baz
  5. Thanks @Swiss Toni Appreciated for that comment! Been getting stuck in and got the manual camchain tensioner installed. Wolah, no leaks! Fuck me was the OEM one heavy as hell. Useless piece of crap. Also as per your suggestion before, I got a crankcase breather hooked up. The only concern I now currently have with the bike is the vapour/steam (smells like pure petrol vapour) emanating from said breather... Dropped a link below to a video. Seems to happen once she's nice and hot and been running for a little while. Been looking around and seen mention of water vapour etc, but still a little concerned. https://streamable.com/dbak6 I believe she is running a little lean. Fair amount of backfire on decal but taking her up to be tuned once I've rectified the other issues. Any advice as always, greatly appreciated.
  6. It does get better... We (I say we, my Dad) paid £2k to get her fully up and running after he'd had her sat in the garage for a good 7/8 years before passing to me. Things that were 'done' by the other mechanic...; Head gasket replacement (Twice lol) yet used different sized bolts when putting the head back on. Why? Fork seals Head bearings Oil change + cleanup Indicators Carb clean and re-tune Weld on the head (After he noticed holes the second time, not when he had the entire thing apart anyway the first time) Starter motor clean/fixup after it first died. Springs within the forks were a few MM out? Wiring sort out What we got Head bolts were all different sizes. Missing oil seals on a bunch of the bolts Side cover gasket was completely missing a chunk. Rather than going around a hole, it went up and over like steps (Completely missing a chunk) - Just beyond lazy. Cam chain was one tooth out (what even the fuck) Camchain tensioner pissing out with oil. (He insisted it was the side cover.) He replaced said side cover. Twice. Guess what, still leaking... but he "test rode it" and it was all dry... bullocks. Starter motor died (Had to then arrange through my insurance to take it back to him) Rocker box had all different sized bolts Spark plugs were all rusted and still being used even though were 8+ years old. (No brainer to replace them when getting a bike up and running like new again...) Master cylinder on back break completely seized so break doesn't adjust/move. (Leaking from the olive as well) Fork seals had nothing done to them (Nothing) Entire head was covered in gunk/shit. Considering he'd had it off twice, I'd at least have expected it to be somewhat cleaned. Headlight completely dead (Wiring was fucked, had to fix myself. Neutral light also didn't work, also had to sort) To say I'm pissed would be an understatement, but glad I have a decent/reputable mechanic down here who managed to get her sorted for me... Just this camshaft tensioner now. @vizman Appreciated. Gave him a call, but unfortunately, they've just used the last few they had. Going to give me a callback when they get a few more/gave me a few recommendations on who else to call. Thanks for that!
  7. Cam chain tensioner was completely missing the O ring. Pretty much what you've said @arnout, we replaced the O ring but still leaking (Tiniest amount) - Going to look into getting a manual one. Any recommendations? Cambelt was one tooth out Rocker box bolts were missing oil seals on 4 of them. A shame that we/I/My Dad got ripped off at the first mechanic, but unfortunately wasn't in my control at the time. Appreciate the advice from here as always!
  8. Gave what you guys suggested a try. Nothing in the bottle. Pipe completely dry. Gave her a good run, nice and hot and left idling for a little. Noticed a fair amount of oil accumulating on the camchain tensioner. Attached another photo really shit lighting though, sorry. Was sat watching it, kept accumulating from there and dripping onto the left hand side. Guessing this is running down the casing and to my boot.
  9. No pipe/breather. Just a metal pipe protruding out. Hard to grab a clear picture, but presuming this is what you're meaning?
  10. Thanks! Cords still connected etc. Will give this a go Not 100%, but can't see what else would cause Oil to be on the wires below the fuel tank/dripping onto the carb heads/under the camchain tension and provide enough of it to run down the side casing/onto my left boot? Unless of course, it's the camshaft tensioner itself that's leaking? There's a 'bead' of oil that's directly underneath. But the only reason I've been assuming the oil pressure switch is various information given and/or my limited knowledge of motorbikes. This is the only thing that I can think would have 'pressure' enough to shoot oil up? Everything else is dry around there. Carbs themselves underneath on the valves are wet with oil, but above completely dry which is what's pointing me to the oil pressure switch. Are they actually capable of shooting oil 'up/out' when compression gets too much/heat? I can't re-create it unless I'm riding around giving it some whelley. I'm whacking it onto a bench this weekend to give it a further looking into, but wanted to see if anybody else had dealt with or seen similar issues. Really appreciate your response. I am a newby, but always willing to learn.
  11. Glorious!!! Saw this a fair few months back. Absolutely loving it!
  12. Hey guys, Finally got my baby back. 1980 GSX 1100 ET I inherited from my dad. Been having some fun the last few decent days of weather we've had in the UK. Had a bit of an issue with the first repair/mechanic, but all sorted. Rode her home yesterday, but noticed there was oil all over my left boot. Side gasket/starter motor had just been done as well as the head gasket, so was somewhat hesitant to immediately blame it on that. I noticed below the fuel tank, a lot of the wiring there literally had drips of oil coming down, and onto the carbs causing smoking. Upon further inspection, it appears that my oil pressure switch may be "spurting" the oil "up"? I've never really come across this, so really not sure. Had a car mechanic have a little look (He was with me when I pulled up to my garage) and he was stating that in cars, that can happen and is most likely the cause. Been googling, but either I'm useless, or can't find the right terms. I've attached some photos. Just above the switch, the large metal (I do apologise my ignorance, I have no idea of the correct term) tends to have a huge drops of oil underneath also, directly above the switch. It's fresh and extremely hot. This doesn't really happen on short rides unless I fully open her up. The oil on my boot I'm presuming is run off from the switch, to the left side of the engine. Right side is completely dry. Nothing on that side/oil at all. Any ideas/comments/opinions fully welcome. Any questions/further information needed, please do let me know and I'll provide what I can.
  13. Yeah, I've got it getting hard recovered back to them tomorrow to go back through her. I want to trust them (They have a ton of reviews, work on classic bikes all the time) but at the same point, they told me she was finished and then all this. I also don't get how they can remove the entire top end but not even give the cooling fins a wipe down? I appreciate everyones responses here though. I'll be sure to post a bunch of pictures beforehand, and once I get her returned.
  14. Tyres were replaced as the others were hard and weren't too maluable. The carbs were taken apart and fully cleaned, the K&N filters cleaned and re-oiled etc. Seals on the forks needed replacing, as well as the head bearing. Springs within the forks were also 35mm too short (my dad had bought them reconditioned a fair few years back) which was also replaced. New brake pads, new master cylinder for the front brake lever. It just appears they barely test rode it after repair. IE, they only rode it 6/8 miles. They reckon the reason she died on me is due to the way wiring was done initially. They'd put bullet connectors on, where as beforehand it was just twisted. They're saying it may be the alternator, but honestly, don't know if they're just chatting shit to me or not now.
  15. I posted another photo above. The head I'm pretty sure the gasket has been replaced? I'll grab some better photos tomorrow from the top/sides correctly
  16. Here's a better photo for you of that. The head gasket has definitely been replaced, but yeah, the lower one (apologies, I don't know the correct terminology) ((Cam cover? gasket)) doesn't look like it has been touched. The top end was definitely taken off - Got this in progress picture of it as he was working on it.
  17. Hey! I'm hoping the vast knowledge you guys share may be able to assist/help me. I will state now, mechanically, I'm really not the best (At least, on old school bikes ironically). I'm happy to get stuck in, and I learn very quickly, but my knowledge of motorbikes and fixing them as of the moment is rather lacklustre, hence me being here to ask a few questions! I do apologise for any stupid questions in advance (Just keen to learn more) I recently inherited a Suzuki GSX 1100 1980 ET from my Dad. He'd had it MOT'd about 8 years ago, put it in the garage and never used it since. We recently brought it out, took her up for repair where the head gasket was replaced, fork springs were too small so they were adjusted, a general overview/maintenance. The guy had the bike for a total of 30 work days (Not including weekends). Cost about £2k or so to all in all. He stripped the full top end and nothing nasty was found. MOT passed fine (Literally on Saturday) I rode her home Saturday, what a bloody ride. Absolutely in love. But, I noticed on my left foot there was oily residue which appeared to be leaking from the side cover. Feeling alongside the ridge, it was dry, then suddenly wet alongside the gasket there. (see picture) It seems like it's running down the various bolts there. Problem 1. I also noticed that once the engine had heated up enough, oil was dripping on the exhaust manifold from the head (causing smoke to appear because of how how the manifold was). (see pictures, with oil drip on the bolt itself) I was unsure whether this was due to the gunk not being cleared off from before and it leaking and the guy who had replaced it hadn't really cleaned the area around it. I've given this a wipe with a rag, but I'm still pretty sure I still see oil around the main nut here and/or feeling it, the consistency is that of new oil. But then, I'm really bloody unsure. On to the main issue. Yesterday, I put in the straight through baffle (My dad recommended I did) and didn't make any changes to anything else. Bike was running absolutely fine, no issues. Some guy cut me off, so I went to honk, realised how crappy it was and accidentally stalled the bike. No biggy. Went to re-start, and from that point onwards, the bike was 'boggy'. There's no other way I could describe it other than it felt 'laggy' - it didn't sound right, almost like it wasn't firing correctly. Accelerating took forever. The moment I came up to a roundabout and pulled the clutch in, she died on me. I tried to restart her, but no luck. Choke out etc. I tried starting her while accelerating, which worked, but then immediately died once then RPM hit idle (1-1.5k~). I was about a mile away, so managed to get her back to the garage, by constantly revving. Moment I pulled the clutch in, instantly died again. It was still consistently sounding, well, fucked. I tried starting her once she was at the garage, no dice. I let her cool for half an hour or so, tried once more with the choke out, started normally, didn't sound strange or anything at all. This morning, I whacked the other baffle back in (The original, non straight through one) - Started her, let her warm up. Was playing a bit when letting the choke in and dying, so let her warm up for longer than normal, pulled the choke in, no issues what so ever. Begin riding her, again, no issues. Get to a roundabout, pull the clutch in to kick down into first, instantly died, and then could no longer start her. Quite frankly, I'm really bloody lost. I'm trying to get hold of the mechanic that 'fixed' her for me initially, but during the meantime I was eager to get some other opinions/views. I'm happy to provide pictures/photos/further descriptions if needed. Thanks in advance! TLDR; 1.) Side cover? is leaking. 2.) Head gasket issue still happening? Oil appearing on head/dripping onto exhaust manifold. 3.) Loss of power once engine has been warmed up and accelerating. 4.) Bike dying with clutch pulled in once warmed up and riden for about 5~ minutes.
  18. Just inherited this beauty from my Dad. Waiting to pick her up this weekend. Thought i'd introduce myself, say hello and show her to you guys! I'm sure I'll be around here a lot!
  19. Hey Man! Absolutely gorgeous bike - I'm set to inherit a v reg 1980 GSX 1100 ET myself from my Dad this year. He's kept it in a really nice condition, and is still pretty much road worthy. He recently got himself a custom bandit so I managed to convince him to let me have his other baby! Just wondering if you had any tips or recommendations for the bike? I'm going into this somewhat blind other than what I've read and seen online (And from the old man itself of course!) P.S - The purple is pretty awesome. Loving it!
