Jpich85 Posted September 18, 2018 Posted September 18, 2018 I'm thinking about the engine on this build and was thinking about going for the b12 swap as it'll probably be cheaper and easier to get hold of than a gsxr 1100 engine, I have had some really helpful information on this before from everyone, I wanted to ask if the engine will have enough room in this frame tho because the petcock on the tank is already quite close to the oil lines that connects to the top of the engine and I was just worried that if it's any bigger it'll be hitting the petcock? Any help would be great Quote
Captain Chaos Posted September 19, 2018 Posted September 19, 2018 Yes it fits. I have a Powerscreen engine in my 750L, and a fuel tank from an 1100 which has a slightly relocated tap. When it had a 750 tank (which I damaged in a crash) I had to lift the rear tank mounting points a bit with some 10mm spacers. Quote
Jpich85 Posted September 19, 2018 Author Posted September 19, 2018 Thanks captain I might have to try those spacers then if I hopefully get the engine, I would love a 1100 tank but they seem to fetch high prices on Eblag. My tank has a two rust patches, I've tried to clean them up the best I can but one was so pited I couldn't get all the rusty bits out, would you recommend replacing the tank or do you think it might be salvageable? Cheers Quote
fatblokeonbandit Posted September 19, 2018 Posted September 19, 2018 This is one I did a couple of years ago, b12 engine and 750 frame, only mod is the bottom rear engine mount, 1200 is 12mm 750 hole is 10mm so it needed drilling out, as you can see the tap cleared he carb tops Quote
Jpich85 Posted September 19, 2018 Author Posted September 19, 2018 Thanks mate I appreciate your help, looks like it's possible then, I really like the look of that bike and the tail suits it well. Do you have any advice on the small rust patches I have on my tank? Would you treat them and use it or would it be a case of having to replace the tank? Quote
fatblokeonbandit Posted September 19, 2018 Posted September 19, 2018 (edited) Ive used POR tank sealer before which was good, seems to have lasted well???? https://www.frost.co.uk/por15-car-bike-motorcyle-fuel-tank-repair-sealer.html the seat is a GSXR 400 one. I stupidly sold the bike a few years ago Edited September 19, 2018 by fatblokeonbandit Quote
Jpich85 Posted September 19, 2018 Author Posted September 19, 2018 I might try and salvage this one then, it's not too bad and overall it's in good condition, I really like that seat, I always regret sell parts but at the time it funded the build so it seems like a good idea lol Quote
Captain Chaos Posted September 19, 2018 Posted September 19, 2018 if you lift the rear of the tank 10mm, you will need to support the middle of the tank (where it sits on the rubbers on the frame) with 5mm spacers. Otherwise the front mount takes a lot of weight and starts to crack eventually. I found out the hard way. Quote
Jpich85 Posted September 19, 2018 Author Posted September 19, 2018 Thanks captain I'll remember that, hopefully get it by the end of the year, if I manage to save up. Quote
