Antman Posted May 15, 2016 Posted May 15, 2016 Hi all Anyone know what octane the 85 was designed to run on?. Here in Oz we have 91,95 and 98, I have been using 91 as advised by a mechanic. Im interested to know if I could run a higher octane would there be any benefits or would the hotter burn cause poor running issues. cheers Ant Quote
tabby59 Posted May 15, 2016 Posted May 15, 2016 91 will be fine with that bike. OEM compression on that motor is 10.6:1 if I remember correctly. Using a higher octane will just empty your wallet quicker. There are no ill effects to using the higher octane, it doesn't "burn hotter". Higher octane fuels have a higher "latent heat of combustion" point, or the temperature where it will self ignite. That is so when used in higher CR motors it will help prevent pinging or knocking. Antman Posted May 15, 2016 Author Posted May 15, 2016 Thanks I have experienced some pinging using 91, hence question on fuels. Would using say 95 octane improve this?. cheers Quote
banoffee Posted May 15, 2016 Posted May 15, 2016 Try it! Have run mine on 95-98 for over ten years, no problem. Quote
kokolis Posted May 15, 2016 Posted May 15, 2016 92 is on the lower side, 95/98 is more suitable Quote
