Neveragain55 Posted January 30 Posted January 30 Hi Gang, I’ll get right to the point….. I have to install a manual cam chain tensioner on my 1979 GS750E because I bought a set of brand new Kehien Carbs and they are configured in such a way that the original “large” cam chain tensioner will bump into them, so it has to come off. I’ve already bought all the parts I need to put the new manual cam chain tensioner on including a new valve cover gasket (in case I needed it) and a new gasket for the new manual cam chain tensioner. My issue is, I keep getting conflicting info on exactly how to take the old tensioner off and how to put the new one on, and I don’t want to mess up my engines timing. I’ve researched how to do this everywhere and I’m coming up with nothing. If anybody could give me a step by step guide on how to do this or even a link to a video I’d be very appreciative. Thanks…. Gixer1460 Posted January 30 Posted January 30 Assuming the old tensioner was working all the chain slack should be tensioner side so remove old one, wind out the manual tensioner bolt inc. lock bolt. Mount unit with new gasket and old or new bolts. Once done, wind in the tension bolt with fingers until you feel resistance - this is about as tight as is needed. Manually crank engine over a couple of rotations, then check the tensioner bolt to see if any looser - if so, finger tighten again and without increasing tension, lock the lock bolt - job done! 2 Quote

Thank you, I'll follow those exact instructions, much appreciated....... Quote
