GS550 Engine? Help identifying pls??

Hello folks, I have just picked up an old GS engine, is there an easy way to identify what size it is?

It's chain driven I took the carbs off and the O/D of the carbs is 34mm (engine side). The engine number is very warn and does not look right.

Are there any other ways before I start to strip it down for a rebuild?

Capacity should be cast on a plaque on rear of the cylinder block - usually LHS.

I did look but didn't see anything, I will check again tomorrow

The capacity is on the front left of the motor, in a rectangle

That's a 77-79 motor

stamped on the front left as you sit on the bike cylinder just above left exhaust header
