GS550E Fork disassembly

I'm having some trouble working out how to disassemble my forks. The Haynes manual says to unscrew the threaded top but there isn't one.

How do I remove the damper and spring?

Push the cap down into the tube and dig out the C clip, once the C clip is out the fork spring should push the cap out.

Yes, like Tony said.  You'll need a fine sharp pick to get the c-clip out.  Growing a third hand may help too.  The c-clip is made from thin spring wire, often get rusty, good to have replacements on hand.

Also... in my experience, the E models normally had the screw-in fork cap shown in the manual; the L models had the c-clip.

that third hand is your vice, but make sure you use soft jaws
