VJ Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 So the front end in my Gsx600f is a worn out gsxr400 set of usds that Ive decided to replace with a stock bandit 12 front end, that way I at least get conventional forks back and retain 4 pot nissins to slow her down (got a b12 engine in it) Apparently I need to get a slingshot stem to press into the bandit bottom yoke and then it'l fit directly in, this is due to the stem being the same bearings but the bandit 1200 one is too long for the stock gsx6f frame. Does anyone have any pictures/measurements of the stem types in the title so I can confirm this? surely if im cunning I can get the bearing face turned down and put a spacer over the top? CheersVJ Quote
IceKat Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 Yes VJ the Bandit stem is too long, i cant help with a photo but i was looking at a spacer for my Kat project until i decided to go with an USD front end instead of B12 Quote
fatblokeonbandit Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 Yes the b12 is tooo long but don't wreck it by machining it , get a slingy one and press it in, the b12 ones are always easy to flog due to people doing the swop the other way and fitting slingy forks to bandits, i had a slingy stem until a few weeks ago and gave it to someone on here,, much easier to find than good b12 stems.. heres one i did earlier, slingy stem on the left bandit 1200 on the right 1 Quote
Ted M Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 (edited) I will get you the measurements of a bandit mk1 1200 and a gsxr 1100 l stem I have them in my shed Edited December 6, 2015 by Ted M Autocorrect Quote
VJ Posted December 6, 2015 Author Posted December 6, 2015 Cheers guys, FBOB, any particular reason not to machine down? I have a friendly machineshop local, or is it just shitty steel that doesnt machine well?I suppose If I buy a slingy bottom yoke and swap the stems, Id have a slingshot forks into b12 yoke spare I could sell to recover costs, thats if I could get into the sales page, my post count is too low at the moment CheersVJ Quote
fatblokeonbandit Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 If you have a bandit stem in a slingy USD bottom yoke its worth shed loads, ive seen them go for £75 or more... Not on here obviously but on a certain auction site we aren't supposed to mention, as to machining the stem its not difficult, as long as you can cut the threads well, as they are very fine. But much more cost effective to sell the bandit stem 1 Quote
VJ Posted December 6, 2015 Author Posted December 6, 2015 Ah deffo a better financial option to make a b12/slingy yoke up then, now its just to find a slingy stem that isnt already in use in a daft front end swap lol CheersVJ Quote
VJ Posted December 6, 2015 Author Posted December 6, 2015 I wouldnt mind confirmation If its to hand chap but dont worry about digging out the dusty end of your shed if not. CheersVJ Quote
Ted M Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 Photos lost some quality when I reduced the size if you need a dimension from them give me a shout Quote
VJ Posted December 6, 2015 Author Posted December 6, 2015 cheers chap, yeah if you dont mind confirming the dimensions that'd be great. CheersVJ Quote
Ted M Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 Ok here goes all dimensions as they appear in the photo not including the bit that goes through the bottom yoke. B12 height 254mm height to bottom of top bearing 187mmgsxr 1100L height 233mm height to bottom of top bearing 167mm 1 Quote
VJ Posted December 6, 2015 Author Posted December 6, 2015 awesome, cheers sam, worse case scenario I can get one turned up. I assume thats the slingshot one?CheersVJ Quote
Gsxrsam Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 you would need to measure, but gsxr is about 10mm shorter than bandit....... Quote
VJ Posted December 7, 2015 Author Posted December 7, 2015 So the slabby has the same size bearings and length apparently, Does anyone know if a slabby stem fits into a bandit yoke as I might be able to find a slabby stem easier? CheersVJ Quote
