GS1000 timing chain guide

Gents,

 

I snapped off that thing what is bolted in the center of the lower crank case, the timing chain runs above it.

Can I do without, or does it has a special secret purpose?

I figured out that the front guide is held in place with that thingy..

So I put it back in.

Are you sure? That's bolted on the case with a pivot point..

Yes I’m shure. There’s a point on the end of the guide that locates in the hole on the ally piece. If not there is too much pressure from the chain when running and it will fracture the steel piece of the blade where the bolt hole is.

Just had a look, you're right.. It's so flimsy..

I have 2 sets of crankcases, the set I had on my bike did had that part in it, the other set hadn't, I did have a rear chain guide what was snapped off..

I managed to find a part number of it, 2nd hand people ask more than what they cost new..
