Its a pipercross px500 series ordered it with a blank backplate and bored it to suit the carbs. Fits nice and is efficient not crazy on price either. Its in their competition section.
Thanks! Looks like you used factory velocity stacks out of the airbox?
Hope everybody down there doesn't have to deal with any more nasty weather anytime soon!

Can you give some info on the Pipercross filter?
I looked at their website but could not find any info on your style?

Yes, bummer on the Bakker! But the money will go into the GS instead.

Many years ago a friend of mine put a 1000 engine in a 750 frame without much trouble. That thing would wheelie at almost any speed as the 750 is a shorter wheelbase than the 1000. The frame handled the increase in power without any trouble.
I believe the swingarm pivot bolt is a smaller diameter on the 750 vs the 1000/1100.
GSResources would also be a good place to ask the same questions.

Beautiful job man!

HI,
Please share a jet config You run on those KNs (stock vs mods)Those carbs are from an gsxr1100, stock jetting, still messing with it. I am going to get a Dynojet kit this summer. I may also put the VM33 smoothies back on also, way more power with those but less streetable also. The Dynojet kit will probably wake it up though, will see.
Cheers

Hey Daryl, I just joined last night. I don't recall seeing either of your bikes over at GSR. Cool on both counts. Good to "see" you.
Glen
Hi Glen, I had the 1000 build on the mods forum but with changes to GSR some of the pics disappeared. And I am just to lazy to reload them :-).
Cheers,

Best advice I can give if they are struggling to start is retard the ignition. Most high compression engines require this, most electronic controlled engines utilize this to ease in starting. Firing the plugs at or very near TDC will allow the engine to spin faster on start easing the load on the starter. Not only will it make life easy on the starter it will make life on the starter clutch soooo much better. A destroyed starter clutch is a lot more painful than a destroyed starter!
Here is some reading for you http://www.theflyingbanana.com/starterclutch.htm

My 1000 is 10.5:1 and the starter works just fine. I have however put an ignition retard arm on the plate to manually retard the timing during starting, since this mod I get zero starter kickback and the bike starts with ease.

Why do you need an upgraded starter? Higher compression?
-
Have you checked valve clearances? Too tight and compression suffers.

Well, that was a failure! We agreed on a price, I said I need to look at my schedule and will let you know when I will pick it up. Told him it may take a week to find out but will get back to him on a date. Sent him an email 6 days later when I was coming to get it and he says he took a deposit on it!
WTF!?
Dick head did not even ask for a deposit, we had an agreement!
Oh well, looks like the GS1000 is going to get some upgrades instead! I am thinking 1100 jugs over bored, Ohlins and RS carbs.
cheers

It is not the coils, it is the power feeding the coils. If you have time just check the voltage feeding the coils.
I use the coil feed wire to close the relay I install, I feed battery power directly to the coil. Out of the 4 old Suzukisi have owned this is what I did and the starting was vastly improved.

Do you have a solid 12 volts to your coils? I bet if you checked you may have 9-11 volts especially during starter motor engagement. I always do the coil relay mod, puts a solid 12 volts to the coils and that old air-cooled engine start a lot better.

The availability of parts is good news. It is a very decent price, a little over my current budget but doable, budgets are meant to be broken, right?
I am thinking this will be a 4-6 year project realistically, a 100 custom by me. Complete carbon bodywork etc, or a race replica.
Time to sweeten up the wifey!

Hello, I am new to the forum but a long time GSR forum member.
I am looking at a Nico Bakker frame, I have noticed there is not much about them on this site? I was told this is one of 50 frames produced by them.
Anybody have anything to say about the frames? It apparently was built for the 750-1100 Gs engines, 16 valve, but a 8 valve will probably fit also as there is not much difference in them.
Cheers,
Daryl

Oops, sorry, didn't mean it to sound testy!
Every "wrap" job on this side of the pond is plastic

Welcome,
I like the carbon wrap tank
It's not a wrap, it's real carbon fibre! It's real carbon epoxied to the tank, then leveled with epoxy ant then clear coated. So yes it is sort of a wrap, but it's not plastic.

Not sure if you are a member of GSResources, but here is an article where a member put an 1100 oil cooled engine in a 82 GS750. Maybe the 82 is a differant frame than the 83? http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum/showthread.php?188079-82-GS750E-to-GSXR1215-restomod&highlight=

Thanks again, hope you don't need to remove the velocity stacks, that 5200 is pretty permanent stuff, but a fantastic adhesive for what you used it for!
Think I will order up that filter set up, I am going to put my VM33 smoothbores back on the 1000 but hate the KN filters. Your filter setup with the velocity stacks looks like a very good arrangement and looks the part also.
