Do any of you lovely people who are attending the track day have a set of carb balancers which you could possible bring with you to cadwell? Dont fancy paying £60 for local shop to do them and would love to learn how myself. I know they can be bought for £30-40 but don't have that spare at the moment. Cheers guys

Fixed it buddy :-) dont know what was wrong in the end haha took off and put back all cams etc and it stopped rattling

Only took 3 days of fucking around to sort it......

Update!!! Took it all off!!! Threw a paddy and started again. Chain guide out, cans off, tensioner off, the lot. kinda did valve clearances to the best I can without the proper tools. Re did it all and it's fixed!! not got a clue what it was!!!!

Bandit 1200 (now 1216) turbo. 1998. had engine out, re bored and built back up. Starts and runs nicely but has the rattling noise. Checked can chain and seems taught, checked timing 1000000 times and is spot on. just been moving the rocker arms and they have slight up and down movement (maybe 1mm) on all but 1. could this be coursing the noise? I haven't touched them tho just cams off and back in again so don't know how they could have moved.....

The rocker arms shouldn't be able to move up and down a little when not engaged right??

Now you have confused me. whats the obvious?? (first time taking apart a 4 cylinder so not as expert as you)

It didn't make the noise when it was standard pistons in so the clearances shouldn't have changed correct?? Or could they??

Ok so I have just built up my 1216 engine. With some faffing with the timing...... now I have it running and its long smoothly with everything correctly done according to mr HAYNES. now when I Rev it, there is a rattle coming from the cam cover. Is this the cam chain?? I have done the auto chain tensioner how it should be. i read on the internet that these things sometimes stick, it ratcheted out when I turned the engine over by a 19mm spanner. is it correct in thinking it could be stuck between teeth and I should back the bolts out either side of the tensioner until it clicks, then tighten again?? Or am I thinking it is something completely different from the actual problem?? Thanks guys!!

And do you just have a slash cut? I feel mine is extremely noisy without the exhaust. Both on idle and under load....... Will take my exhaust and see how it goes :-)

It's pretty quite with the full exhaust on. Just wondering about with it off :-)

i have just (roughly) welded up an 'exhaust' that I can slip my end can and link pipe into, can be slipped out with just removing a bolt so will see if it's too load on the track without it. What do they do if it is too load on the track? Just warn you and tell you to make it quite rot kick you off?

It has a decent bit of clearance. Angle of the photo makes it look super close!! Wont have that exhaust on. Tacked that on for MOT haha

Will have an exhaust on unfortunately to make it quite enough :-( would a sock do the trick?? Haha
