  1. Big job on this year.. I scored this Upperton racing GS1085 motor (confirmed by the man himself) it came in a chopped café racer style GS frame (probably destined for a brown seat) so I started tossing ideas around.. do I fit it in my S or brace the chopped frame and make a Rickman replica..? then this Harris came up so that decided for me really.. I took delivery on Friday (28/07) and got it up on the ramp for closer inspection.. cleaned, checked over and removed the Z900/1000 engine (to sell on to someone who wants one more than I do) next I want to make an engine stand for the GS engine, I’ve got a spare frame which I can use (i sold the headstock +V5 to a chopper builder) Watch this space.. I’m off to Ardingly show/jumble now to see if I can buy some more bits or a buyer for the Z engine
  2. That doesn’t sound very ‘budget’
  3. Thanks mate.. yes It’s the standard ‘79 ‘slide’ head. I do have a later one which I can swap over but that’s not gonna happen any time soon.. I can nick the inlets off it tho if that’s all I need..? Are the fixings still 60mm on the later head..?
  4. Is it worth Mounting a set of gsxr750 slabby (vm29..?) carbs to my ‘79 GS1000 (1085cc..) looks like I need 40mm inlet rubbers with 60mm centre fixing holes, is there a common/recognised way of doing this..? would a later rubber like a 1980 GS (cv carb) fit.. the 2 inner carb centre to centre are 5mm wider than the originals so would need slight offset intakes..? Or is there a more suitable (budget) upgrade from the standard carbs TIA..x

    VIN…?

I haven’t bought the bike yet as I’m working in India until early August.. i just paid him a holding deposit I asked the for pics of the vin and engine numbers and this is what I got.. looks like it has no black tags but I’ll run a HPI check and if that comes back clear then I’ll probably just go ahead and buy it..

    VIN…?

Hello Chaps.. numbers ain’t my strong point and I’m trying to check the vin and engine numbers as it looks to have a heck of a lot of kisses in it.. can anyone help as I am a bit lost.. xxx it’s a GSXr 1100L see pics it says red and blue on the v5 and I know superstition wise that black is a taboo colour in Japan so they add blue fleck in it to overcome this detail but is the word ‘black’ taboo too..? tia..Bob..x
  7. Thanx fat bloke.. that’s exactly what I was thinking
  8. L O people.. I’ve just bought a 92 1100 slingshot but it doesn’t have the 1127cm3 plate on the bottom of the cylinder block as the others I’ve owned had.. was this normal for the M-N models or has it been swapped for a bandit block..? V5 and engine number both match but is there an engine number chart I can refer to somewhere for future reference..? TVM..x
  9. Yes it was a gem of a find.. all stock parts included, so I’ll be using it as a donor bike for rebuilding my ‘S’ when I get round to it.. I’ve also got this old C in the restomod queue hence the flueted stuff
  10. The blue is for a basket case I have in storage, it’s an early 1978 U.K. bike which I’ll probably be building up next winter.. the fluted bodywork is all red at present but I never liked red, so I’m thinking it’ll either go classic skunk black or this sexy sharksfin blue.. photo is of my current ride.. a ‘79-E (wearing the C tank) also current project is an SN resto mod, I’m just working on a 1085cc upgrade.. hope to get that back in the frame before the end of this month.. (lots of distractions)
  11. Ok sorry, I stand corrected.. xx
  12. L O Chaps.. Sorry if this subject has already been covered but I’m looking for this 1978 GS1000c colour.. the Suzuki chart says it’s either Florida blue (which is too dark) or Ultra blue.. but I’ve heard it referred to as ice blue and silver blue too.. has anyone else used it...?
  13. Little bit more progress on the Pig.. he’s looking nice and chunky
  14. interested in your findings Wraithe
  15. I got a bit impatient and cheated a little bit by tading my Busa in for this 90% complete bike, just needs tyres and front suspension sorting out so that’s taken priority for the last few days.. hoping to get the pig back up on the bench tomorrow
  16. Update managed to find some 1200 bandit bits so made a start with the front end.. (cut, saw, hack, grind.. I’m in heaven)
  17. Yes exactly that mate and I guess the US&A got the latest model first so that would put us behind by a few batches.. same with my XS650 spec says it’s a ‘76 ‘C’ but VJMC dating says its a ‘75 ‘B’
  18. Shit mate.. that makes up practically related … hang on…. are you ma real Dad..?
  19. Wrong.. It’s a ‘78.. See attached image.. who am I to question that..
  20. All them are on my on the wish list but trying t’find B12 or a slingshot running gear at a reasonable price seems to be a problem within itself.. any other easy options out there.. teapot.. power screen.. maybe..?
  21. It’s only running on 3 so I’m sure the carbs will be well cheesed up.. and If the forks and swingarm are toast.. then I might go down the bandit running gear and big wheels route but if it’s just needing seals and bearings I’ll replace them and run it as it is for a bit
  22. L O All, I’ve been away for a while on the XS650 project but just bought a 78’ GS1000E which is very tired and neglected.. I have a few beer tokens saved up so what do you think would be the best upgrades.. ive got a little list already in order of importance. first get it running sweet, so 1st change the Oil and filter, clean the carbs up, new plugs (possibly leads and caps) or go big and buy a full ignition upgrade kit from Grumpy1260..?
  23. Yeh i removed the bearings and spacer from the 1100M wheel cos the spindle for the SRAD forks is much thicker (pic) but now I’ve just realised that the speedo drive is too small as well.. That’ll probably be another £30.. bollox..! another lesson learned..
