  1. Address the simple solutions and eliminate them first.

Pull carb 1 disassemble and give it a good cleaning to eliminate plugged orifice as an issue.

If you had the carb apart before was it reassembled correctly.

My last carb mystery traced back to a leak in the diaphragm, before that I never noticed  a missing 2mm o-ring in an air-cut valve.

How about a little bikini fairing like the Katana has? Has anybody adapted a Katana fairing to an efe?

open three windows on your screen for the three bikes... Katana, gs1100es and GS1150efe.  You can see the design progression and the changes in fairing and tank.  Would it work, possibly. It's not going to be the most expensive modification you're going to do, if it doesn't work out move on and try something else.

  3. I have the full efe fairing and intended to strip that off and go naked, I even bought the nearly unobtainium  headlight and bucket for the conversion. But after a 7hr mountain cruise on my other naked ride I had a rethink, I do rather like being out of the full blast of the wind on long mountain rides.

Now I'm keeping the fairing although it will look different in aluminum and I have a naked efe headlight on my shelf that I may put on my other ride, I also have 1/4 Cooley style fairing for it.

Try what ever you want and if you're not pleased with it, change it. It's what we do, we modify bikes until we're satisfied.

I really like what I see and hear on this site and have literally changed my mind half a dozen times in 3 or 4 hours of browsing members projects.

Yup, my  biggest build issue is myself, I can't keep a finished design in my head, the project is constantly evolving. Every time I think I have a clear idea of the completed project I see another great idea and incorporate that into my project, today was no exception.

Thanks Guys, spent far too much rescuing it, but would have been scrapped else. Little bit of work to finish, then on to the next one (1100et)

When has anyone ever come in under budget, restoring old motos is rarely a sensible financial investment. We do it because we love it.

You've got a left half and a right half? or a top and a bottom? - are they identical? No - hence the different part numbers!

true, unless he's referring to build date or serial number. If matching serial numbers one side could have been replaced after sale or even at the factory.

94.07.07 126 looks like a build date but I'm no expert on Suzuki dating methods. Just a guess as the bike is a 1995 model it could be 1994, July 7th. 126 could be unit number for the day.

My other Japanese ride has two numbers for build date, one for the frame and another for the engine(built a month apart) and both numbers date to 1978 even though it was sold as a '79. Normally there was only one crankcase number but there were units that had two stamps, one on top case another on the bottom.

  7. Here all I need was to produce the sale invoice from previous owner. If it was stolen it'll come back when they do a search history.

Water bottle is considerably less expensive than a MotionPro bottle (y). You now know it starts and it doesn't when you hook up the tank there's a problem with the tap or line leak. My petcock was okay for vacuum but it leaked, I found another at a local salvage shop. You could install a Pingel petcock, just don't forget to turn it off.

Same as my bike. Right now I’m just proving that it can run before I put too much money in it.

if it turns over you can usually get it to run, it just may not run well:D

My efe came with two broken plugs rusted/fused into the head. $1,200 later I had rebuilt head and it started up on the first attempt...well it did once I learned unlike my other bikes I needed to pull in the clutch firstxD.  Normally $1,200 may have been too much and I should've looked for a running bike but I only paid $1 to make transfer of ownership legal.

If a 'flexible' plastic is no longer flexible - its broken down, UV degradation, call it what you will - its failed.

Re: The highlighted bit above . . . . . that you could see! There are plenty of accidents caused by 'my brakes suddenly failed' ! Would you similarly trust 30, 35 or 40 yr old tyres?

I could've cut down the plastic and gotten back into the more flexible section and it likely would've been fine but it would've then been too short.

The mechanic who guides my rebuilds has decades of experience as racer, safety consultant, mechanic and crew chief at the highest levels of moto racing, he always seems to be flying off somewhere as a consultant. If he detects something that needs replacing he doesn't hesitate to let me know. I've complete faith in his judgment, he wasn't concerned with my old brake lines when he took the efe on it's 200kph test rides.

And it didn't occur to you to change anything rubber - just cos it 'looked' ok?  :/

Ride behind this man guys - he has 35+ year old brake hoses! :stop:

vacuum line was plastic, it doesn't break down, it lost elasticity.

Brake lines were absolutely fine, passed government registration inspection, just as the lines on my 42 yr old bike did. I've since upgraded both rides to SS lines for better braking performance not because there was anything physically wrong with the lines.

  11. I have two bottles of of wintergreen I bought for that purpose but it's a short term solution, eventually you'll need to replace the rubbers which I did instead. Pharmacist asked me a lot of questions as to why I needed so much, apparently there are unapproved drug uses for it.

A heat gun/paint stripper plus grease works quite well too.

  12. Would 84 GSX1150efe pipes fit, they look the same  don't know about diameter of tubes. I've no idea how to make a transaction and you haven't reached the 50 post limit, and shipping costs may be an issue they are 30lbs.

You could try Hindle/Ripple rock racers as well.

  13. I've painted very flexible seat coverings with rattle can paint and not had a problem with it breaking up. The knee pads on my tank have held up very well and I've had them off and on a number of times twisting and bending them in the process. Good surface prep is the key to adhesion.

I was going to build a bit of a rough n ready bike. Had planned on putting a gsx tank on it but then this turned up on Eblag so I couldn’t pass it up, £400 a bargain I reckon, so now I’ll have to powder coat frame etc as can’t put this on a bike that isn’t near mint.

xDIt's an incurable disease, we can never stop throwing cash at our vintage rides, it's never "good enough".

By the way, are you aware of the unwritten rule, that as the head comes off, you also need a high compression big bore kit?

:( Yeah I'm a rule breaker, I should've done that when the head was rebuilt. Maybe in 2 or 3 years when I'm done everything else and to strip it down to paint the frame. That'll be the time for a 1230 big bore kit.
