  1. I have Racetechs they work well, if you're reasonably mechanically inclined and have a drill press you can install them yourself. If you're looking to keep an oem appearance this is a good way to go.

Both my rides are equipped with Racetech I installed one set myself and had the mechanic who does my important work install the other set as I was too lazy.

My mechanical wizard worked on the WoldSBK circuit and now just  North American  said Racetech is a wonderful bit of kit and I'd need to go to inverted forks before I find something better. And that was unbiased praise as he personally knows the Racetech boss and thinks he's a prick. Are there other systems mentioned as good possibly but going with the opinion of a professional tuner seemed like the safe way to proceed.

  2. There was an oem wider wheel option for the GS1150...a forum member on another site offered to sell them to me.

I don't know if that was a common option or just a USA option, the wheels were black and not the gold I was looking for, in hindsight I could've painted them gold.

  3. I no longer approach speeds of 180kph + so my 16' works perfectly fine.  If I were to switch it would be to a later 17" to shave some weight and better selection of tires.

I ordered a carb rebuild kit from the same site, 5 months later and still not recieved anything, asked the question through there website email but no reply ????? take your chance. ive heard some people have had no problems with their stuff,,,,thats if you get it

I made a purchase not long ago same problem, no product.  Sent email asking when my product would be shipped email response back was "We're busy">:( .

I contacted Paypal and got funds applied back to my credit card.

  5. Cruzinimage has a spotty reputation, I've heard reports of them being total arseholes who refuse to make good on faulty products. Yet I've friend who bought  big bore kit from them with no issues at all.

The price is certainly tempting about $700 less than I paid form my Wiseco kit. If you purchase with Paypal you have recourse for refund.

I couldn't lay mine on its side as it was in a lane on the side of the house, pics below show where I did it.

To protect paint: go to plumbing supplies and get some foam rubber pipe insulation.  Install it on frame rails that might rub against engine during installation.  (remove when finished)

I don't lose any sleep over it and just accept the frame is going to be scratched. I have a can of touch up paint ready to fix any scratches.

is their a technical reason why they go in from left?

There is the rear motor mount to contend with going in from the left on the efe. It's a problem for removal as well so it goes back in the same way it comes out on the right.

Last time I took mine out & put it back in i did it on my own...no wonder my backs fucked, an efe's a heavy old lump. O.o

Removed it on my own as well it took the best part of an afternoon. Tipped it all on it's side then attached a ratchet strap to the ceiling to aid lifting the frame up . Required a lot back and forth wiggling to coax the engine out there isn't a lot of clearance. May recruit a couple son in laws to drop frame back over engine.

  10. all good then. :D

I can't recall where exactly but there is a section of the forum where you introduce yourself and tell us about your Suzuki affliction/obsession.

    Lots of pictures please!

  11. Ya those are the rules. Please understand them.

OEM is definately OUT with this restore but thanks for the offer.

This is one of the only options I can find for exhausts new here in the UK.

    https://www.wemoto.com/bikes/suzuki/gsx_1100_esd/83/picture/marving_master_4_1_complete_system_chrome

Would prefer to find a period so 1990's exhaust that would work with it. I mean the bike is a 1990's time capsule with the JMC and Micron fork brace. Something will come up thats for sure.

The link for Ripple Rock Race worked out at $1075 without shipping hence the UK supplied Marving maybe a lot cheaper option.

Forks wise, as I have bandit stuff here plus RF stuff I could use that. Not sure about an RF front end but then they all look the same to me. It would be nice to have a good feel front end though. Guess thats where the GSXR11 front end comes in once again.

Did you choose the Cerakote finish for the Hindles?  Cerakote was an extra $300, the SS finish was $749.

Bike is off to the menders as I cant weld! They are fitting a replacement stub for the gear change lever to fit to as the PO CUT it off.

Then its playing with the 1990's Motad Neta from a GSX750ESD to see if that will fit the headers. I'm hoping it will but think it wont. Does anybody have an guidance or know if it will go in?

My budget doesn't allow me a custom exhaust. I will keep my eyes out for a period exhaust that will fit this build. I know I haven't posted enough yet so hopefully in time I might be lucky on the for sale and wanted page later.....

At the moment I'm thinking keeping the JMC and possibly going with a Bandit 1200 front end as I have one here. (No yokes just forks.) Thoughts. Is it an improvement or I really need a GSXR1100 front end?

I have also chatted to a local guy who makes aluminium frames and swinging arms. He knows the JMC arm and understands my issues with it. He's kindly offered to sort it and to space it out to what ever wheels I want. I just have to bring the original spacers and wheel I want to use and he can set it up for me. As I have a spare set of RF900 wheels/tyres here I wonder..........Can I keep the original rear brake or do I have to swap it for a later RF900 one? Sorry guy's I'm using what I have here than spending loads of cash.

    Thoughts......

OEM headers that I have hanging in my garage weigh 35lbs, they were replaced by 4-2-1 headers weighing in at 10lbs with muffler for $749 cdn.  Unless someone has an oem system laying about and donates them to you for free it's worthwhile to spend the cash and get a new system. I'm okay to sell my oems but shipping a large 35lb box from Canada could be pricey. I love my Hindle's but losing the centre stand is a compromise some people don't care for, for me it was another 3lbs lost.

    Update****

Still waiting for the carb kits soo I'm looking at the small fuel leakage i havew from the tank. looks like the fuel level sendor gasket is shot, might be leaking trough the unit itself. The sender was sending out a bad signal too, wouldn't give the right reading. Dismantled it and it looks very corroded. These parts are not avaible anywhere near here (Québec Canada), so i will try and find a gasket and give the brush and contacts a good clean, hopefully it helps a little. Wish i could still order a new unit from suzuki :p.

In need of parts try OldMotorcycleShop web site, located in Calgary,  internet sellers for vintage bikes.

  15. As for forks and keeping an oem look which I did, consider RaceTech emulators.

I'm incredibly fortunate to have  a mechanic nearby who has a long history on the WorldSBK circuit who gives free advice when supplied with doughnuts. When I was looking into a front end fork swap finding the appropriate forks was a challenge he said the Racetech emulators were top notch equivalent of many fork upgrades only USD forks being clearly better. The emulators were a vast improvement over the oem performance and eliminated the anti-dive feature at the same time. Improved handling, oem appearance.

don't get me wrong, there are people on here who like stock original bikes. And they will answer your questions.

But in general we like to modify the f@ck out off our bikes.

I don't see the point of spending cash to restore a $2-3K bike to original oem level for it only be worth $3k when I'm done. But we don't all have the same objectives.

As for your question about headers: I use a BOS system on one of my Katanas. Bought it off a 1st generation B12, for which it was meant to be. Just a 2nd set of header gaskets and it is a nice fit. Collector is just enough at the right hand side to have the oil drain plug in reach.

    will an oem '84 GS1150efe 4x2 exhaust fit a GS1100esd, I'd think they'd be very close

  18. And on this side of the pond there is a difference between Canadian and US models and identification. It's all a real pain in the arse when you need spares, regardless how many models share the same part it's risky ordering a spare if you don't have 100% confidence it's going to fit.

It took a number of hours but I finally sourced the appropriate parts 18t front and 43T rear sprocket from Dime City Cycle in the USA and a 120 link Regina chain from FortNine in Canada. I never would've guessed it would be so time consuming.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to share their knowledge.

  19. Now the pain of dealing with suppliers that won't supply a listing of 530 sprockets,  only offering the oem 630s as the only option for the efe. xD

It would help if there was away to confirm what other models/years of 530, 525 or 520 would fit on the efe.

  20. Then comes the choice of acceleration vs fuel economy, naturally I want both at the same timexD.

I've added about 20hp and shed 40-50lbs of dry weight so bumping up the front sprocket one tooth to 18 won't cost me any significant acceleration. That should result in better range at highway cruising speeds and nearly idle through 30kph school zones in 3rd.

18-48  or 18-43 would seem to be the best fit for my needs at this time. Knowing the speed limits of the main roads vary from 110- 130kph I'm leaning toward 18-43. What I can source quickly may influence the final decision.

As Arttu stated....very close to stock ratio of .357 (15/42) 630 to .354 (17/48) 530 .  just buy a good quality chain with 120 links and remove the excess ....I highly doubt the few extra links will cause your financial situation to crash :D

Of coars,e it was the risk of buying something a couple links too short that was a worry.  Maybe It could be returned if I kept clean but shipping down time would likely be month.
