  1. Hello guys, I'm hoping for some advice regarding the ride height on my 92 GSXR 1100 please. Here's the situation:

    1. The bike has a 93 1100 swingarm fitted (the banana type) - these have a sort of dog bone assembly in which they are both welded to a cross bar at the top. So one option is to cut those off and weld shorter bones on....but thats kinda messy

    2. The top shock mount on the frame is welded and not adjustable like it is on the 750 - is there an adapter that works with the 1100 frame?

    3. My shock (Nitron with Ktech spring) isnt height adjustable (apart from the pre-load)...kinda stuffed there.

The reason I ask is because it was very scrapey at the track and apart from wearing a hole through my tray, its also catching the main part of the lower fairing. The bike actually sits level at the moment so the next question is this:

    4. My clip ons are on top of the yoke - has anyone got them under the top yoke on theirs? If I just eye it up it looks like it might go, but will be really close to the fairing. But if I can make that work I could raise the whole thing 20mm or so, which I think is all it needs.

Any help and advice appreciated. Many thanks!

  2. Charging problem solved - the Eblag Geni sorted it and its back to 13V at 4k rpm! Absolutely spot on diagnosis by that nice boy @Rene EFE.

Nearly got the slabby rims on, all the bits ordered for nice braking...chucked some fat bars and a proper master on there. Got 3 weeks left to get it ready!

Maybe I've missed something, but can you run is through your setup; generator, rectifier, size of battery (Ah)?

Thanks mate, yeh trying to learn as I go but yes you're absolutely right I need to be able to go through it systematically. Just this bike isnt that sort of tinkering and learning project for me.... Gotta have the ET ready in 3 weeks ish...or the Gurls blouse gets the holiday instead. Desperate to get away.

Duff Reg / Rectifier - change it if planning a road trip - under-volting a battery is as bad as over-volts!

Yes definitely I will take a spare even if the current one is OK. Had that get me on tour before...

  5. Thanks for the responses gents and unfortunately my embarrassing mechanical skills make communication about the problem difficult as well. Hopefully I can make up for it later by giving the thing a proper vacation blog. For now I'm trying a new generator from Eblag and really really hoping that sorts it - if not I'll have to get help. Just took the casing off and the windings and hole pitches are the same as the Eblag one ive bought, only my original has clean red resin covering the windings with a thick layer...the Eblag one looks like a crappy resin, also has no markings.

Regarding the mag - the gentleman in the US had cut out that page some years ago as he was looking for the bigger tank, and was also following some Dutch turbo bike builders. He told me he'd been booed away from OSS because he had a Busa engine in his Kat haha! He did know ity was 816cc and had V&H headers...

Slabby wheels should be here tomorrow and will see if Wal (best brake disc salesman ever) at PFM has anything suitable. I also need to lure in Rene and Jelle with fried snacks and eurofizz so they can help me measure up some bits for my awesome machinist buddies in China. Need to get the Slingshot Nissins on my original GSX forks.

  6. Hi guys the voltage across my  (new) ET battery is only 12.5V @4000-5000 rpm. @Rene EFEis helping me out and felt this was not correct - especially since it does struggle to turn the high compression motor over.

Planning to ride the thing to Croatia in a few weeks so any input on the best course of action would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

PS. Heres a cool bike of my bike that somehow made it into a US mag in the 90s....more on that later.

Took the anodising off my slab and slingshot and scotch padded it using gt85.  Real ball ache to rub the anodising off but worth it.

Perfect. Yep this is what I'm going for. Using the pro guys to do the anodise strip off.

    Cheers

  8. Dear OSS family,

Hope like me you are at the very least benefitting from some additional shed time lately.

My 92 tiger has always been a bit of a '2 meters bike' and I decided it deserved a very deep clean. and try to get to look good up close too. I have now ended up with a bare frame, which is good because that is really the main thing letting it down. Everything else is pretty sorted. But the frame has several terrible streaks in the anodising by the swing arm pivot, presumably from some sort of truck wash. Worse still is my attempts to smoothen out those areas, obviously to available with it being a clear hard coat. Also the swing arm has a different kind of clear coat and looks kinda crappy.

So I have a found a local anodizing guy in Rotterdam that does a lot of colour work for Philips. They've offered me what I though were pretty reasonable prices from a specialist:

    1. Strip the frame and swingy - 170 EUR

    2. Strip and re-anodize in any colour - 450 EUR

    3. Strip, pre-treat (I think a type of blasting) then re anodize - 750 EUR

Thats for the frame, swing arm, rear sets.

I'm interested to hear if you guys have experience with this. My initial thought was just to strip it and then do a scotch brite brushed finished myself. But then I thought maybe the re-anodized in gun metal grey would also look cool. But the cast areas wont anodize as well, thats for sure. Worth a shot perhaps.

Any experiences and advice much appreciated. Cheers.

    Mike
