  1. Things have moved on a little since my last post when I reported the back end to be way too firm.
I managed a short ride out and as expected it was a nightmare☠️

Having followed a lot of other info on this subject, I decided to contact DanM54 and get one of his adaptor plates ordered along with a K1 knuckle

Once arrived and bolted up the rear shock actually moves and with a little fine tuning I’m confident it will be fine, the dogbones even look nearer to the perpendicular too, the ones I’m using in the pics are 125mm and increase the ride height about 25mm, so I’m probably going for either an adjustable set or 130-135mm should put the height back to standard

The only remaining headache is the chain rubs against the edge of the vertical centre brace of the swingarm!! Now as I’m running the standard 1100k rear wheel, I took a lot of time spacing it correctly for wheel and sprocket alignment, and I’m aware the 750k1 sprocket is a further 10mm from wheel centre

So I was wondering if any of you can advise me as to the best way around the chain clearance issue, 520 chain and sprockets, space both sprockets out a few mm, grind the weld off the swingarm, or fit a K1 wheel and space out the front sprocket???

  2. Yes Dan can still get these Adapter plates, i ordered one at the weekend for my 1100K with 750K1 arm

I too am aware that you can change the spring to a softer one, i believe MeanBean did this some time ago on his race bike.

However i hope that fitting the adapter and a knuckle for a 600/750/1000 K1 has got to be simpler than hunting down and trying many springs, then tuning the shock unit to suit?

Good luck on your search for the correct Spring. I had heard that a CBR600 unit worked?

  3. Hi there folks,

Joined the group a while ago and been surfing/lurking for info and inspiration since, however please accept my apologies for not introducing my ride a little sooner. It’s a lovely old 89 model GSXR 1100 K with a few subtle modifications in a Streetfighter Stylee

Owned since 1999 when i bought her as a completely standard 10 year old with the sole intention of going down the route of the Streetfighter look, reminiscent of the old air cooled GSX / CB / Z models i was brought up on, but with less scary handling

“If only you had kept her standard what with todays prices!!” I hear you scream, and yes isn’t hindsight a wonderful thing, but i do enjoy riding about 3000 miles a year and love the way she looks, so hey ho

My current lockdown project has been fitting a 750K1 swingarm using the 1100k wheel, suspension linkage and an Ohlins i fitted some time ago, along with numerous spacers and 125mm dog bones  just to get things bolted up using the same ride height. I think the rear wheel is lined up about right as the 750K swingarm is 20mm wider than the 1100K one, so went for 10mm spacer either side?

As your probably guessing from the angle of the dog bones, the back end is WAY too firm. The plan is to ride out soon and see what its like and try a few suspension adjustments on the road. Ive listened to some great feedback from MeanBean who i think used a softer spring? And DanM who offers an Adapter plate/link that would require the 750K1 linkage along with new dogbones

So just thought I’d put it out there to show you my ride, and ask how any of you have managed to get around this conundrum

    Thanks

Use one of these with a k series knuckle.

Dog bones depend on ride height and swing arm length obviously.

Got some anodised matt black as well.

    Hi Danm54,

I had heard of these mysterious Adaptor plates as i was searching for information on fitting a 750K1 arm into my 1100K Slingshot. At the moment I’m going down the route of K1 arm, Standard 1100K knuckle, shock and shorter (130mm) dogbones. Just awaiting some parts to get it all together.

Ive heard conflicting advice that i need this adaptor (but what Knuckle), run with 1100k set up as above but softer spring? So my question is, do you still supply these, which knuckle, and how much please? Tia

Hi guys, can you help please????

Im fitting a K1 swingarm to a 1988 GSXR750. I believe there's a mod to the front sproket and I've been advised to use a 520 chain. (I've got the rear lineage sorted - happy days)

Can anyone advise with regards to the front sproket modification and the chain length?

Also.... what's the overall preference on gearing 15/42 or? Any ideas yearly appreciated.

    Thanks.

Hi, I’m on with fitting a K1 arm to my 89 1100K, I’d be interested to hear how you got the rear linkage sorted as the dog bone angle looks too shallow to me with the K1 arm having the mounting underneath, any pics would be appreciated, tia

  6. Thanks for that, i will indeed try without the spring. I raced a CBR600 way back in the 90s and remember too well the faff setting up suspension

Could you remember what 20mm rear spindle you used as the 1100K one is 315mm compared to the 28mm 750K1 item which is 330mm?

  7. Much appreciated Mean Bean, I apologise in advance as i may badger you again as the job unfolds.

Similarly to yourself I’m working with the Slingshot Linkage and have an Ohlins shock (not sure if the length is adjustable mind) and it looks like the dog bones i will need are about 15 degrees off the horizontal, so not sure how that will work on the spring?

Ive put a k4 arm in a slingshot and a k5 arm in a HUC frame (same dimensions as slingy) just had to have top hat/bearing spacers machined up to make spacing correct and shrink the bolt hole size down to match slingy swingarm bolt. If your going to use a later wheel its worth noting that the sprocket offset is 10mm different to oil cooled wheels. Its a faff machining sprocket carriers, spacing front sprockets and running dished rear sprockets backwards to get the wheel central and the chain run correct. Otherwise you end up with either an out of centre wheel of the issue shown above.

With the k5 arm i used slingshot wheel and made new chain adjuster blocks that spaced down spindle size so i clild use slingshot wheel and spindle. Was loads easier

    Hi Mean Bean / Gentlemen

Newbie to the group, but been running my 1100k for 20+ years.
Inspired by some of the stuff I see on here, so took the plunge and got a 750 K1 arm off Eblag for a bit of a winter project.

As I’m also using the original Slingshot wheel and spindle, i notice there is an 20mm gap using the standard spacers as the K1 arm is 20mm wider. I’m not sure how to align the wheel/sprockets, so wondered if you remember what spacers you used, I’m thinking 10mm each side looks about right, but really don’t know?

    Thanks in advance
