  1. Check that the two dogs on the oil pump gear behind the basket  are engaging correctly in their slots in the back of the clutch basket. If they're not, the basket will be spaced wrong and the clutch won't disengage.

Does indeed - and that would be the logical way to do it - a press together crank makes the bottom end 'easy' whilst the head gets the 'cut and shut' mods with split cams etc. Although clever and no doubt well executed, none of them address the issue that *onda designed out - hanging the rotor / alternator / ignition off the end of the crank making a wide engine even wider - the CBX was little wider than a GS1000 where it mattered! Bearing in mind how easy it is to deck GSX engine cases when racing, these must be getting close in spirited road use? Looks like an external elec. oil pump is included - not a bad idea with an AC bottom end !

alternatively, if you used a set of 750 aircooled cases, theyre a shell crank motor so you could use a stretched oilcooled crank as 750 aircooled cases are everywhere propping shed doors open and stopping canal barges from drifting away.....

    Good catch

it struck me as the sort of thing that might be used if you blew a motor and told them and theyd say 'ahh well you see, youre over revving them' which seems odd for a performance part built for tuned motors. and the gsxr w revs to 12k...
but that might just be my natural cynicism....

Undoubtedly times and technology have improved, but I unless there's some test data about frame flex it's going to be impossible to say if it's just the tyres (for example) or a combination. It's also worth noting that the top times at the classic TT are not on 40 year old frames. To name one as an example Michael Dunlop's XR69 shares bugger all with an original.

So I would suggest that if your starting point is a 40 year old frame of the original diameter and tube thickness then the stuff Pops did is of more direct relevance than a special framed bike built over 40 years later.

also, dunlops xr69 is running a slingshot gsxr or bandit 1200 motor so not even aircooled.

  5. i suppose i should add that ive run sidecar outfits for over 30 years, our family transport for years were sidecars and we took our kids all over europe in various sidecars so getting another is more a bit of nostalgia for me rather than a leap into the unknown....

a side car johnr thats interesting

grandchild necesitates some lateral thinking. original plan was to fit one to a katana but i cant bring myself to use one of my kat frames for an outfit, so im going for an et and then will later fit the kat bodywork to it. the sidecar is a saluki siderider which is an 80's chair and if you google it, youll understand why its perfect for a kat!!!!
