Smithy Posted January 9, 2022 Posted January 9, 2022 Does anyone out there know if I man put a K2 engine in a K3 frame ? I have been offered a cheap engine that’s apparently low miles ? Quote
Pasis Posted January 9, 2022 Posted January 9, 2022 If we are talking about 1000cc, then it will fit without problems. But you will need to replace the timing chain reference disc on crank to a k2 for your ecu to work with this engine. 1 Quote
Smithy Posted January 9, 2022 Author Posted January 9, 2022 That’s great . I was told to find out if the head mounts are the same , so I’m glad it will fit . many thanks Quote
Smithy Posted January 10, 2022 Author Posted January 10, 2022 Hi PASIS , yes we are talking 1000 , with regards to your , crankshaft timing disc recommendation , does that involve a engine strip down ? Thing is I’m looking to do as little Mechanical work as poss atm , as I just want 2 Chuck the thing together quick as , do a track day or 2 . Then next winter do tare- downs etc ?! So would it be easier , if poss to put a K2 Ecu on with the engine ?! Quote

To replace this disc, you need to remove the cover of the starter drive mechanism, remove the overrunning clutch, remove the camshafts, remove the timing chain, and then you will get to this disc. Otherwise, the new engine will not start with K2 ECU. 1 Quote

Pasis Posted January 10, 2022 Posted January 10, 2022 Not much work when both motors are removed. At the same time, you can check the valve clearances, and if necessary, adjust them. All this can be done in half a day. Quote
