GSXR750 - Mikuni question

The 750 M and L carbs mainly differ in the float bowl design. The earlier L carbs have screw in plugs that enable main jet changes without float bowl removal, as in Mikuni RSs. I have no idea if M float bowls would fit L carbs . Maybe not as the powerjet connections do differ. I have a set of L carbs somewhere and do not remember them having an external rubber hose from the float bowl to the carb  body (??). The whole bank (L) should work fine on an M but finding a decent set of BST 38s from an M or L is not easy. Has the choke tube broken or is it just loose and pulls out? I would contact a carb specialists such as Allens or NRP and ask their advice as it is likely they have seen this before and may offer a solution.
