I was meaning the "stacked coins" look on thicker work, butt joints on frame tubing etc. not on the tanks, as you say more important to be fluid tight. I never considered using flux , but it makes sense as i suppose it allows the filler rod flow a little better. I am not sure I would be up to mending a tank in this way, I best start practicing!
