gs1100 square adaptor for damper rod

About to make a steel square adaptor head for removing damper rod.  I don't suppose anyone knows the dimensions before I start the process of trial and error ?

Or alternatively know the size of the 12 pt torx bit ?

No torx bits needed here. If you want to rebuild your forks, with no springs in compress the forks and use a couple of 1/2 socket extensions, a correct size socket and a 17mm (to be used as a 19mm 'allen key') to fit into the top of the damper rod. You can now hold the rod using a t-bar or ratchet so the bottom set screw can be tightened. One of those hex head 'wheel spindle tools, 19mm' also works if you have one and no correct sized box spanner.

Exactly the info needed.  Just to confirm is it a 17mm Allen ? The 19mm reference is confusing.

I can't remember the exact fit but I think the required box spanner is 17mm (id fits a nut with an  AF of 17mm) The wall thickness of the box is about 1mm so the hex can be effectively used as a 19mm 'Allen Key' because 17+ (2 x 1) = 19 (id of damper rod).
