alternator drive gear teeth?

Hi, please excuse my ignorance but I am struggling to find the info I need. 

We have an '89 1100k, can anyone tell me how I can tell the difference between the drive gear please? 

we have quite a few lying alternators from gsxrs and bandits around, Eblag bargains ect, we dont know what the original gear is from the engine as it was replaced by previous owners.

So 28 teeth....

I assume you mean the actual drive gear? Or the whole engine? :confused :

the bit that attaches to the alternator. apparrently the alternators off the bandit and the gsxr are the same but the gear bit at the end is different, (we had the wrong one on and its smashed up clutch drive. )

So you've replaced the drivegear on the back of the clutch,  is it appropriate number of teeth for the 1100 K motor? In which case, see Fatbloke's post.

thanks, cant believe out of 6 that i can find in the house, only 1 has 28 teeth!!

The gear on the clutch basket is 37 teeth on the small cog that drives the oil pump and 66 in the bigger one that drives the alternator
