Interchangeability of carbs and carb rubbers for oil-cooled engines

Today I put mk2 gsf1200 carbs on a mk1 gsf1200 but used mk1 rubbers. Throttle linkage from mk2 carbs is buried into the side of the head not letting carbs open or close. Just stuck partially open.
