Are those the pistons you're using ? I'm presuming you've shortened the liners because the piston skirt no longer goes there. Do they still spigot into the cases ?

You can improve on the standard R+D where time/cost made it not worth them doing but there is nearly always a shifting compromise.

To make them lighter, yes ,yes. This is for racing only, and no need to survive + 100000 km.

No i just shortened the standard ones.If you want more power you dont go standard anything.

Any of the bikes that raced in the last few years have far lighter wheels - supersport class have to use std wheels, as has been said twisted spoke Slingy wheels are very heavy - front : 11lb10oz with spacer and bearings, rear 16lb 14oz likewise (you youngsters can convert to kg !) to give an idea I have a 600/750/1000 k8/9Lo front it's 9lb 2oz, the rear is a later (L3) 750 wheel and weighs just 11lb 4oz , the L1 onwards 600/750 front wheels are under 9lb.  There's less mass in the rim on modern wheels too. this makes a difference too.

Thats great! and what bike do you have?

Not sure exactly of the weight but iirc the zx6/9r wheels from the later models (they have thinner spokes) are around 1.5-2kg lighter than the slingshot ones with disc and sprocket carrier. They are really cheap too. Not sure of what the sprocket offset is off hand.

I will see if i can weigh and measure a, set when I get chance to get in my garage, ive got loads of em

    But are they threespoke?

I don't know what other stock wheels are lighter but look similar (somebody on here will). It looks like you've got to the point where it's money on fancy materials or cut back on the pies.

And maybe a bit of training/exercise to shift the Kilos. :(

    Caramba!

Sorry to be the one to ask but, how heavy is the rider ?  Often the easiest and cheapest way to lose a few kg.

95kg with all, ready to race. Yeah i know, but could brake a arm and leg to get the weight of the bike rather then me.

You have to spread the pipes apart , other than that it should work.

2240gram is the weight of mine.

Isn't installed yet but will be fitted to GSX1100F engine.

My stainless Yoshi header is 3500 grams, so that will make some reduktion.

Mine is  around the same weight .  head cooler adds a bit if weight but helps power more. I have Astralites which aren t the lightest wheels but lighter than the slingshot wheels it had.

To go lighter I'd replace the rear caliper and disc, the seat unit is quite a thick lay up so some weight could be saved there. I'd build an alloy tank too.

Then you are into removing alternator and starter and lightening the clutch and gearbox parts.

Hi , i allready dumped the alt. and this winter i will remove the starter, and some small things that go with it.

  8. Hallo! I am a new member, i`m soon to be 66 years old and have some experience on two wheels. I bought a 87 1100 Gsxr a couple of years ago. It was a "racebike" with about 85000km on the clock.Well i tried it on the tracks in Sweden and it was not too horrible, stock rear damper from 87, and the old antidive forks. He He could only get better,so I bought a Nitron for the rear and change to Triumph fork and brakes from the tt 600.Ok, wont bore you with more. Skål ! Me on the 53.
