  1. Should have said '87 slabside 1100 !
  2. Hiya everyone. Just got back from Xmas shopping , bike running fine but took lefthand side panel off and noticed block connecter from generator was really melted and as I touched it the wires came off and also the adjacent 4 wire block connector from cdi also melted - didn't touch that. Where do I even start ?
  3. Cheers for that , I'll get the multimeter out tomorrow.
  4. Hmm, the high resistance thing sounds plausible . It's an old bike with lots of small electrical repairs so I could see how a build up of small probs could conspire to produce a low voltage supply. Not sure why swapping cdi's would temporarily fix it tho.
  5. When I've swapped the cdi 's it's usually been ok for the whole day though couldn't swear it's been 100%. And coils were cheap aftermarket ones off Eblag , I know that's not a good choice but I had a non running bike and couldn't throw too much money at it. And I'm pretty sure it's all 4 cylinders breaking down , also I forgot to mention earlier -when it's bad the Rev counter stops working in a way that suggests it's lost all signal/power.
  6. Yeah I've got a spare engine I could pull from. Can you think of any reason why changing a cdi every day sorts it ? Can they get confused or stuck in some way ?
  7. Yeah the wiring blocks were my first guess so I have gone over and over them and can't find any problems. When it's running badly I can give them all a wiggle and it's never made any difference . Carbs cleaned and new plugs and coils fitted.
  8. Hi everyone. I just got my 1100 slabby up and running after a lay off of 8 years . I had a few short fun filled journeys but it's now developed a problem. Sometimes when I start it it pops and drops out just above about 2000k and wont run through it. But here's the weird bit (almost) every time when this happens all I have to do is change to a spare cdi and the bikes fine. Next day I get the bad running again and switch back the cdi . Any ideas ?
  9. It was a while back but i seem to remember it was a fairly straight forward job. Think it was just a mix of different bearings , machine a few mm off the bottom of the headstock and make a simple bolt-on lockstop.
  10. The bikes been laid up for the last 8years so im just trying to get it going again but not having much luck. And yes thats a 5vy r1 radial front. Works a treat.
  11. Well heres a piccy at last of my beautiful 1100. I know shes been around the block a few times but shes still such a charmer.
  12. Oh that was weird. I feel like my girlfriend just caught me masturbating over a picture of her sister (again). Dont think this is the forum for me , thanks anyway.
  13. Ooh yeah , thats a tasty machine. I'll try to get some pics of mine uploaded when i can but in the mean time just do a google images search for 'kx500 streetfighter' . Mines usually the first that comes up , all black and shiney.
  14. Hi there everyone. Just introducing myself before letting loose with all the questions about my non-running bike. Im 48 , ridden a bike every day for the last 32 years (except when on holiday or in hospital) , im a club racer (crmc) and i live in a cabin in a beautiful bluebell woods with no electricity. I bought my '87-88 1100h slabby about 10 years ago for £400 ! It was my first big bike and i loved it to bits , i especially loved the way it tried to throw me off on almost every journey. When it packed up about 7 years ago it got replaced by a guzzi 1100 sport cafe racer , then a vtr1000 firestorm . Ive also got an aprillia rs125 , a Gurls blouse nv50 stream (you gotta see one of those to believe how fugly they are), a homemade kx500 streetfighter , a 1986 Gurls blouse rs125 nd4 race bike and im currently working on a maico 620 2-stroke streetfighter. Im riding the stripped down guzzi at the moment but that never lasts for long and i keep looking longingly at the slabby so last week i wheeled it into my living room , i should have remembered to refit the oil cooler , my floorboards will never recover. So now im surrounded by tools and say what now!? bits and puddles of oil , empty beer cans and full ashtrays , at least its still summer.
