Joebloggs Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 Don't you just love not knowing which parts are interchangeable and getting a nice surprise when they come through the post. I've pre 98 front brake calipers (the type wjith the plastic cover) and a post 98 (straight spoke) wheel. The disc's from what I understand are all 290mm so I figured fitting should be just a case of bolting them on, and it is, except the inner bleed nipple hits the bloody rim, it goes on fine if removed (and it is screwed right in) but I find it hard to believe it was designed that way. Please someone tell me I'm doing something wrong Short bleed nipples? Blank it off and bleed on the bench? Quote
Joebloggs Posted September 19, 2016 Author Posted September 19, 2016 Just had another butchers at it, me thinks cutting the nipple off will clear the rim, make bleeding a little messy but hey Quote
TLRS Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 Any more clues to this puzzle? Like which brakes, forks and yokes and so on? Quote
Joebloggs Posted September 19, 2016 Author Posted September 19, 2016 Sorry, will be a little more specific, well try, <98 GSX750 forks <98 Four piston calipers, advertised as from a 92 bike, wheel is post 98 17 x 3.5 which is probably what caused the issue. 17 x 3 before 98 I believe. Gsx600 yokes, the yokes shouldn't make a difference I suppose, although I have read somewhere that the spacing was altered slightly on some later models. Everything seem to line up, disc's are centred on the disc, just the bleed nipple issue. Either way I'm not going to change either the caliper or the wheel/disc. The complete wheel/disc's I got for the price of a good part worn tyre (which it has) and the calipers, inc lines and master cylinder were only £20 I think I can live with a cut down bleed nipple at that price. Wiring loom to be delivered tomorrow, that could be fun....... Quote
Joebloggs Posted September 20, 2016 Author Posted September 20, 2016 Well things haven't gone according to plan. The calipers are skimming the lettering on the spokes......Never noticed it yesterday as I hadn't rotated the wheel. Will pop the front end to my local engineer and see about milling a couple of mm off the caliper mounts, will still work out cheaper that trying to sell the ones I have and replace them. Quote
TLRS Posted September 20, 2016 Posted September 20, 2016 That will change the alignment of the discs in the calipers.. could be fine..but might be good to keep an eye on. Quote
