db Posted November 29, 2015 Posted November 29, 2015 I bought a set of carbs described as 'Slabside 34mm Mikunis'.The motor side i.d. is 34 but the narrowest bit of the venturi is 29mm.So... are they 29mm or 34mm carbs? Quote
Moe Posted November 29, 2015 Posted November 29, 2015 (edited) They certainly look like VM29 carbs off the early 750 slabsides ,they were 29mm but they can be bored out to 33mm if I remember correctly. Edited November 29, 2015 by Moe Quote
db Posted November 30, 2015 Author Posted November 30, 2015 That makes sense Moe, thanks. So I was 'ad when I bought them :-( Quote
Moe Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 That makes sense Moe, thanks. So I was 'ad when I bought them :-(It all depends on how much you paid for them They are quite sought after nowadays , so I wouldn't think you would have any trouble selling them .What bike were you going to put them on ? They may still be ok for you . Quote
Guest YoshiJohnny Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 Sam Baker can bore them out...it's only the airbox face plate that needs opening up...Canamant will tell you the best way to do it (there's 2 ways)once opened up they are brill....but make sure there is nothing worn and get fresh seals.. they are 30 years old and will leak/not work properly if not looked after.generally sell for £150 ish whatever condition they are in VM29sbored out and A1 they go for a bit more but you still gotta strip and check themI use them on an 1127 motor and they are great..give good torque but not as good as 40s for top end Quote
db Posted December 1, 2015 Author Posted December 1, 2015 I paid £150 so hopefully I'll still get that back then, cheers!I've a Harris with a GS1085 lump. (It did have a thread on the old site, I'll start a new one when I get chance)The motor is with Roger Upperton for a rebuild, as recommended on here thanks!! I'm hoping to get it back on the road for next summer after a 15 year 'rest'It has Wisecos, Yoshi cams, shim-under-buckets, etc. The old head was 8-plug but the motor ate itself so Roger's fettling a replacement stock head, he reckons 120hp at the wheel :-)I had 33mm smoothbores on it originally but 'lost' them during a house move! They'll turn up one day...I bought the Slabby carbs as a cheaper replacement, but I have a set of smoothbores on the way, which Roger says will be better suited to the motor. Quote
Moe Posted December 1, 2015 Posted December 1, 2015 All is not lost then , throw them on Eblag and you might get a bit more back. I had my GSX 11 engine done by Roger , still haven't got round to building it back up I'm after some 33mm smoothbores , so if your old ones ever turn up , give me a shout Quote
