Rev counter drive

Hi

I need to remove the rev counter worm drive from my 78 gs750 head.

i have taken of the U shaped retaining plate and have tried to pull it out with a pair of long nosed pliers on the small bit that sticks out  for the cable but no joy.

So i thought it best to ask before i muller it up.
