  1. Thanks, Wraith! You haven't steered me wrong yet. I'll be doing that this weekend and hopefully getting everything back together!
  2. Hey all, I'm rebuilding the top-end of a GS850, and really do not want to take apart the bottom end. However, I figure since i've had the jugs off that at least some small amounts of debris, pieces of gasket, etc, might have fallen into the crank case. I can see very little "bits" past the crank sitting at the bottom of the case that i've love to be able to get out with out disassemble. What would y'all do?
  3. Thanks! Agreed... my first bike resto, but I've done a fair amount on cars in the past. I'm leaning on 3 diagrams (850g, 850glt, 1100gl), a ton of pictures/videos on my phone, and some general know-how... and maybe some prayers hah
  4. Thanks @Captain Chaos! Beer bounty for the color 81-83 gs850gl diagram still open!
  5. I cracked open the highlight on a project 1981 GS850GLX and found a brown wire that was NOT connected to anything in the lamp body. I consulted the closest color diagram I have on hand for the bike, and I see this oddity in the diagram. The only brown wire I can find seems to have a connect end that doesn't connect to anything? I figure one or more of the following is true: a) I need a more correct wiring diagram, the one I'm using is for a 1980 GS850 GLT supposedly. b) The diagram has a "flaw" (unlikely as this is from BikeCliff archive) c) I'm, completely misreading the diagram I have included the diagram with the portion in question pointed out. Can someone wiser than me please advise? A search turned up nothing on this matter. Will buy anyone who has a color GLX/Z diagram to hand off a beer too
  6. Hey all, Been posting a lot lately, but it's tough to find info on these bikes! I am finally taking apart the motor on my gs850gl and I'm removing the head. It seems that one of the header bolts is coming out with the header nut as I loosen it. Is this ok and fixable.as along as I thread it back in to the case after the head is off? Or should I work to unseize the nut from the bolt? Random pic I have from the motor (cams are already out of course) Thanks a million!
  7. Cool! I did some more research, and I uncovered that the 81 model X and the 82 model Z are very similar. I went ahead and pulled the trigger. Thanks @wraith:)
  8. Can't find a lot of readily available info on this, but I have a 1981 gs850gl, and looking to get a donor bike. I know there are some differences between 1981 and 1982 but not sure to what extent. Can I get away using a 1982 as a donor bike for the most part? Thanks!
  9. Hello all, 81 Suzuki gs850 Can some one point me to a resource that clearly illustrates how to remove this part of the clutch cable from the engine block? I've looked at a ton of YouTube videos, and even my manual isn't super clear on how to remove from here ...
  10. I was still looking and stumbled across https://gsarchive.bwringer.com/mtsac/~cliff/storage/gs/GS550_77-82_all.pdf - which looks promising!
  11. I've spent a good amount of time searching for this... closest I found is https://www.manualslib.com/manual/910173/Suzuki-Gs550.html - however, the examples in this look like they're from a newer bike. Not sure if this is still the best available. Does anyone have a better version?
  12. OEM part numbers are different, and can't find much on forward compatibility... I don't think the search likes my query too much. Thanks in advanced!
