  1. Bonjour, someone has drilled out the M4 hollow bolt that is used to balance the carbs (where you would screw in the copper extension pipe engine side of the carb) and replaced with an M5 Helioil.

How does one go about reducing thread a size back to a hollow M4.

  2. Thanks for the replies guys, so, turns out you can get a key cut by using the 3 digit code found on the ignition or seat lock. Turns out that my ignition/fuel has a different number than the seat lock and not one that is recognised as a genuine Suzuki number.

The series for a 78 GS1000 is 101-499 but the ignition and fuel has 068 meaning it must have been changed out some time ago.

The guy sorting me out with the seat lock key is John, very helpful and clearly knows his keys!

We've got a fellow Katana rider in Denmark, Søren is his name. Dunno if he is still on here, but a few years back I saw him do a how-to-video opening a fuel cap lock within seconds. I bet the video can be found on you tube. If not, I got his mobile no. Can ask him for a link if he still got that vid.

@Peddathanks for the reference, found this video on Youtube and think i will try with a pick lock set from Amazon and see how i get on

Isn't it the choke feed tube?

Part of the carb body, not supposed to be loose?

Looks like a push fit, should be able to be changed as its a brass part that could get clogged. Can't find a part with that discription?

    Correct, they should be pointy.

Make sure the holes are clear and the tips aren't broken off and blocking them.

I have been able to clear the broken tips and nothing is blocking them

  5. I'm on the roundside vm26ss so may not be the same?

It's a real nice offer but wouldnt want you going through all the trouble stripping down and having to replace gaskets and stuff.

Do you know of a carb expert that can be contacted?

  6. Hi CockneyRick

    Thanks for the reply.

You would think that this kit would be the right one but on appearence the pilot screw looks to be different.

I have attached photos from the original manual which shows the pointy ones (#2) and when you cross reference this from the kit it doesn't compare, this makes me question the kits I'm looking at, the all look like this?

I'm wondering if anyone on here has the same carbs and have experience in this area?

  7. Inherited my father’s pride and joy last year but due to his deterioration he never got round to making the old girl run as smooth as she could. She always pulled hard on full throttle but at tick over she would sometime cut out. Carbs have been stripped and issue identified, broken and logged pilot mixture screw tip OR the “pilot air screw” as per the book. I have been able to remove the broken tip and clear the hole….phew!

Makes sense at this time to purchase a carb repair kit, however, I cannot locate a kit which comes with the correct screw(s). Every kit I look at the screw appears to be of a different shape.

Attached are the removed screws and their naughty tips!

Here is what I think I need. The shape matches that of the non-broken screw in my pic.

This carb kit doesn’t match the screw shapes I need

Anyone had this issue? Any one got tips? Do I need to purchase the carb kit and then the screw separately?

    Thanks in advance
