  1. i know the proper shocks are the fork on the bottom just having bother finding a new set for sale on e bay there are ones listed for £50 but they look rubbish looking to spend around £150 . the bike is standard 1977

  2. hi folks im restoring an 1977 gs 750 for my mate its all stripped down frame etc away for powdercoat full carbs ultrasonic clean and rebuild im looking for rear shocks problem is ive seen some for sale but they say for 77 but have single eye fitting top and bottom the ones of his have a fork fitting at the bottom im not sure what model his is ie different letters after model any info would be great also any recomendations for good shocks thanks

  3. im doing a full strip an rebuild theres a small security screw at the side of fork tube were the damping adjust screw is can this be removed and does the damping screw come out for cleaning checking etc fitting full bush and seal kit

  4. you can buy the tool for around 20 euros here, but yes it's a bit expensive for one time. If you're really careful you can push the bush and seal in place with a hammer and a screwdriver. But it's easy to f*ck up and you don't want to be found by a friend or a neighbour doing it so lock the door before you start.

I use Valvoline Fork oil 10W.

thanks captain can you post the link for the tool again its not workin thats not a bad price

  5. massive thanks everyone great advice i now feel confident enough to tackle them myself what do you use to drift the fork seal into place ive seen the proper tool but dont fancy spending £50 for something i might only use once has anyone improvised a tool ?? and what fork oil do most of you use

  7. thanks everyone its comin back to me now i remember the fiddly screws an the slightest pressure sets them off i stripped the carbs fully and replaced all seals an cleaned all the jets so just this to do an should be running sweet

  9. I'm afraid it does not make them ttougher  but what it actually does is make the gears engage and stay locked and not bounce back apart or jump out of gear however you wish to call it.

cheers jonny i always thought it made the gears tougher wearing
