Dont forget to take into account lower that modern wide wheels have a lower profile tyre. The maxtons i used on my last twin shock gsx where 385mm and that gave me about standard height

    Good point, thanks

what else are you doing to beef up the motor? crank and clutch will need beefing up at least, running 740cc on a stock 550 crank is not adviseable.

I heard the crank is well over engineered and should be ok. But any advice on what to do would be good. Clutch is getting stronger springs. But again open to any advice on that too. It's all apart, so now is the time to make any changes.

  3. Usd from a 91 gsxr M, but the discs are toast, looks like they have been attacked with a grinding disc. nothing else apart from slingshot discs seems to fit, but sticking with it as everything else seems okay. 5.5 with a 180 on the back seems to fit okay, need to brace the frame a bit and was thinking of shifting the top shock mount, but not sure now. standard 550 tank and tail, will make the seat base.

Funnily enough, I was on the phone to Hagon yesterday about more or less the same thing. B12 arm into 1100 ET frame. I was needing to know std. ET shock length to position lugs on swinger for welding, which was 330mm between centres. Closed eye top - forked bottom end.
Hagon will supply shocks closed eyes top & bottom in 10mm increments from 280mm - 370mm. Give him a call. Very helpfull guy!  (y)

Thanks for that, will give them a call. Do you happen to know the angle of the rear shock in relation to the swingarm, just to try to get the bottom eye in the correct(ish) position.

Go on Alpha Sports or CMSL's websites, and look at their parts lists for possible matches. I have a good contact in US that does comparable part no's. Will have a look when I get home.

Looks like it may just be slingshot only for discs. Anyone have any ideas where/if just the braking surface disc can be sourced from? Then I could drill out the old bobbins and replace just the outer.

  6. Just mocking up a GS frame with B12 swingarm and trying to work out where to position the lower shock mount. and need a bit of help with the standard shock lengths and the angle of the shocks. Will probably raise the rear a bit, but dont want to do anything too extreme. Thanks

    Link didn't work ?

    Discs that fit :

    GSXR1100  -  K - WT

    GSXR750  J - WS

I think RF discs are the same as B12 ones, so offset not right. There's probably a few other models around the time that used similar discs, someone else might know.

Not many slingshot discs around, so hoped some other models may fit, but not found anything yet.

    All slingshot disks are interchangeable

Are there any other models that can be used? (which are a bit easier/ cheaper to get hold of) I think B6/12 rear discs are the same but wasn't sure about the fronts as B12 are 320mm and slingshot are 310mm

  9. Any ideas on discs that may fit a 1991 M slingshot other than earlier later slingshot discs. The fronts are 310mm diameter, 22/23mm offset, rear is 240mm diameter, Zero offset. The ones that came with the bike look like they have been polished with a grinder! Or any good ways to sort them out.

Hi new here but straight to it

i am looking to change my 77 gs750 swingarm and wheel that won't foul the frame if a dished sprocket is needed ,I have an idea for the front so no problems there

i have looked around and found  info on this for monoshocking but little for twin shock

would a 600, 1200 bandit,600 srad or similar arm and wheel fit (with shock mounts welded by me) as they are more readily available

    many thanks j

Bandit arms are a bit narrower at the frame pivot than the GSXR arms, best bet would be a B12 arm with top hat spacers. I think all the GS frames are about 227mm at the pivot point.

This is straight out of the catalogue

Problem is I have worked out the engine is a 1980 model, but nothing stamped on the mechanical advance unit, so I cannot wok out if its a (ND) or the earlier (KD) retro fitted. I am pretty sure it should fit and work as its for a GSX750/1100. Thanks, thats helped.

found this on the net...... OEM: DS3-1.
    Fits Suzuki 1977-78 GS550- GS750 (with KD/KOK ignition).
Set and forget - no more messing with points... creates a stronger more consistent spark.

1977-78 GS550 & GS750 bikes --- some of these models came with a ND (Nippon Denso) ignition advancer. For these bikes a different Dyna-S ignition system is required. How do you tell? Take off the points cover- the ignition advancer should be stamped with "KD" (Kokusan Densi) or "ND" (Nippon Densi). If you have a ND unit- see the DYDS3-2 ignition system below.

    DYDS3-2 OEM: DS3-2.
    For Suzuki 1977-81 GS550- GS750- GS850- GS1000- GS1100- GS1150 (with ND ignition) # 6 Rotor.
Set and forget - no more messing with points. Ceates a stronger more consistent spark.

    nice one, thanks

GS motors usually run a Dyna S ignition, and GSXR normally a Dyna 2000. You may be able to run a Dyna 2000 on a GS motor.

This is a Dyna S ignition, which was originally for a GSX, so not sure if it would work, I am thinking it would, but didnt want to buy it before I am sure.
