  1. Thought as much.. i was told it has a gsxr750 rear swing arm but where the rear shock come from, i have no idea. Im presuming its not a performace part and the that the hagon would be a step in the right direction. My only concern is that the hagon is designed for the gsx550 and the rear swingarm change will probably mean that some sort of modification will be required
  2. Learning as i go here (the joys of taking on someone elses project) Ive been offered a hagon rear shock but im scratching my head as to what im currently running. Anyone shed some light, is it a std unit (doesnt look like it from what ive searched) or some weird and wonderful part thats been retrofitted thabks in advance
  3. Im so glad i joined this forum.. thanks loads Gents

  5. Driving me crazy !! The new engine is in but the the exhaust part pictured is damaged and i cant seem to find the bugger anywhere. Its thr collor that presses up against the exhaust gasket when the plate is tightened Anyone help name and source the sod please
  6. Yeah had a spark but seemed weak ! Used the carbs that came with the engine too Im hoping it just needs some fettling as it turned over just fine
  7. Swapped the engine over, and the 85 seemed exactly the same... turns over great but cannot get the tw&t to start !!! Chucked it at my mechanic now so im hoping he can fire her up
  8. Ive had a stroke of luck and found a decent engine fairly close to me for a 100, so im going to buy it as itll come in handy for buts on sure Its an 85 bike... does anyone know if there was any obvious differences betwenn the 85 and 87 550 engine ?
  9. Yeah i think ill have quick gander mate If i can cofirm the gs engine is the same, i do have a few options available to me
  10. It seems that the Gs engine could well be the same as the GSX 83-87 engine (both engine code N702)
  11. Its just compatibility issues im worried about. Last thing i need is another project ha
  12. Under hard acceleration it slips, similar to dipping the clutch to wheelie etc. Mechanic tokd me it just wouldnt be cost effective to strip and rebuild. Looks liek ill have to spend an evening looking into transplants. Im not really bothered about performance so i direct swap would be preferable
  13. Long shot but does anyone know if this would be the same engine ?
  14. That was my initial thoughts but i coukdnt really find much info on the net !!
  15. Sadly it seems ive bought a bit of a lemon and the gearbox on my 87 gsx550e is snookered !!!! Second hand engines look to be slim pickings but are there any other models whos engines would slot right in place ? Ive noticed 2 engines for sale on the bay of E but i think theyre from 85 models, anyone have any experience with compatability of these engines from year to year ?
  16. Thanks jonboy It does smell very rich though, may have to get someone to strip the carb and have a look
  17. Evening all I've recently purchased a gsx550e and I've ran into a couple issues already (didn't expect plain sailing with an old girl like this) The guy I bought it from said it had been jetted and I'm wondering if it's been set up right! In first gear, under hard acceleration, at around 2-3 thousand revs (guessing as has no counter) the engine dips and then goes off again.... almost as if I was dipping the clutch to try and wheelie... could poor jet set up give this sort of issue ? On start up from cold its quite smokey (white) but soon clears off and it's a bitch for flooding when cold.... wondering if I need to get someone to have a good look or if I'm just being over critical of an old bike ! I think it's a good un on the whole but a few things are annoying me... gearing seems to be all to f*ck as it maxes out at around 80 !!! I've probably bought a nail
