  1. Any time you stumble across a clean big-bore bike, find a way to keep it if you like it. Although there are many out there still hiding under tarps, in barns, garages, and storage units, most never get seen before a salvage crew finds it and sends it to the yard. Restoring these old animals requires a lot of diligence but the good thing is, if you take the time, you can bring one of these relics back from the dead.

i think its brass, itll polish to a mirror finish if thats your bag!

It is indeed brass. I polished the one on my 750ED and use NeverDull to keep it shiny. Looks great in contrast to the maroon/black paint scheme on my bike.

  3. Yikes. If I were you, I'd try to find a good motorcycle electrician. These bikes have very finicky charging systems and it's possible to burn it all up if you screw the pooch.

My 83 GS750ED came with the service manual so if you can track one down on that auction site, you will be way ahead of the game.

no, that model doesn't cut the mustard not with me  anyway, just my opinion but that model is gopping xD

Had to Google 'gopping'. I guess beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder. I find the one-off 1983 GS750ED to be quite sexy.

  5. The old-style master cylinder didn't provide the 'feel' I wanted so I swapped it out for a 1st gen 14mm Hayabusa/Nissin master cylinder. This also allows the use of an adjustable brake lever. Great for shorter fingers. Bleeding the front brakes with those useless fork damper parts is a chore but I'm going to remove them and use the block off plates sold by FastFromthePast as well as their Tarozzi fork brace to tame that 16" front wheel. Ordered the EBC floating rotors to finish off the front and rear brake improvements. Hoping to shave a few feet off the original 60-0 stop time in the 130's. My winter resto-rod fix is going to be a busy one.

  6. What's the plan to remove the 'alligatored' decals? My side frame cover has a single red-silver stripe that encircles a gloss black accent and I was pondering way to smooth out the old  decal before attempting to apply a fresh one once they're available for my bike.

  7. Bought her late August and have been on a tear to get it as original as possible. How many of you 'restorers' use Eblag for finding those unobtanium parts? What other resources do you use? The handlebar situation on my bike needed to be remedied. Thanks to Eblag I was able to locate a nice set of ES 'flat' risers versus the enormous 'neutral' version that come stock on the bike.
