When you say GS1100, do you mean 16valve GSX tank? if so then you will probably be OK although with 38RSs you will certainly need a Pingel tap to feed them.

    Yes.  This tank --- from a 1980-1981 GS1100E 16V engine bike.

sick is not the fecking word, pulled off the airbox, tank, carbs the lot, stripped the carbs fitted new pilots did not see feck all wrong with old ones,so decided to change the plugs lo and behold one of the plugs was drowned with fuel,so i did not need to do any of the above lesson learned check plugs first in future will fit carbs tonight and keep u posted

But... don't we all NEED to pull all that stuff and clean/inspect it once in a while ----- just for the sheer fun of it?

Hopefully I'm not the only one that doesn't mind that (too much!).  ;)

Too much time scratching my head on this, I have another kid due in the spring so I've sold it to someone with more knowledge, ability and time. I'm now on the look out for another one that I'll have more chance of being able to complete.

I'd like to find something that is at least 100% together, I've grown to really appreciate these big Suzuki's since starting to look into them so I'm keeping my eyes peeled!

Thanks again for those that offered information and advice.

Oops!  Did not see this before posting.  But, maybe the info will be helpful to someone else??

  4. Most definitely a "Franken" bike.  Front forks are GS-1000 (can pretty much guarantee that).  Tank is wrong --- most likely a tank from a "G" model shaft-drive bike.  Rear fender looks like an "L" model cruiser/chopper style.  Footpeg brackets look like 1983 GS1100E model.

    Quite an assortment of parts!

16V donkey in a 78GS1000 chassis, had to use 16v mounting plates, engine mount under generator on L/H sifde of engine needs cutting off frame and new one to suit 16v engine sorting.

Beware of fuel tap vs carbs.....

So.... fabrication needed for the engine mount on the lower left (under the gen cover) and using the 16V motor mount plates and it fits in there nicely, correct?  That doesn't sound too bad.

Looks like you have a 79-80 GS1000 fuel tank on that bike?  I am planning on using a 1980-1981 GS1100 fuel tank and a new set of Mikuni RS 38mm carbs.  Fuel tap placement on that tank might be slightly different --- will check that out.

  6. Bike that is getting rebuilt ---- again, a 1979 GS-1000 EN.  Has already had some things done, but I found metallic shavings/slivers in the engine oil and have decided to just go ahead and tear the bike completely down.  I figure that since it is a 1979 model (and I have other GS-1000 bikes) I can just do whatever the hell I want on this one.

Bought it and brought it home in March 2017 ---

those look like GSX-R 750 M/N forks to me

OK.... I have NEVER had a GSX-R --- so how do I determine what forks they are?  Just want to make sure that I buy the correct parts to install in the forks when I rebuild them.

  8. Yep.  If you look at my history on this site you will find several.

The latest acquisition was this 1980 GS-1000 ET (no pics posted of this one until now).  It will get torn down and I'll use some the parts for the current project.

  9. Has been a while since I last logged in.  I have picked up some more older Suzuki's and now have 4 GS-1000 E models (78, 79, 80, 80) and 2 GS-1100 E models (82, 83).

I have some definite plans for the first one that is to be rebuilt and could REALLY use some help determining if some of my planned changes will work.

Bike/frame for this project will be a 1979 GS-1000 EN.

Biggest questions that I have for now ---

    1.  Install a 1982/1983 GS-1100 16V engine in the 1979 GS-1000 frame.  Direct swap?  Use of which mounts?

    2.  Recommended frame mods to the 1979 frame when installing a modified GS-1100 16V engine (roughly 160 hp estimated at the crank)?

    3.  Install a GSX-R front fork assembly.  I ALREADY have a 1980 GS-1000 E that someone has installed GSX-R forks on --- so I can put those on the 1979 frame.  I just don't know WHAT GSX-R model these forks came from.  Any markings on the forks that will help me to identify?  Or just take measurements of the components and then get help?  [Need to change fork seals and would like to replace springs.]

No great hurry to get this project completed.  Bike will be stripped to the bare frame and rebuilt like it was new (but with LOTS of mods!).

Hi all, does the rubbers from a 750 fit the 1000 air box, mine are rock hard and can't find any for a 1000 only a 750. Thanks

Not sure about that fit, but I've found partzilla.com and bikebandit.com to be good places to find/purchase parts I've needed for my GS1000 and GS1100 projects.

Drinking buddies, and your profile says Kansas City, MO.  Make that a Boulevard with a slice of orange.

Boulevard?  No problem --- I like the Boulevard Wheat best.  You bring the oranges and be ready to slice them and do some wrenching! :D

  12. Joined the forum and made my first post on the General Discussion/Talk page today.  I'm a big fan of the older 4-cylinder GS-series Suzukis and have a few that I am currently working on restoring/modifying.  Looking forward to making some new friends here and picking up some tips on upgrading my project bikes.
