  1. Awesome. The owner 's taking it in (with me there of course) on Monday. Monday's do or die, don't wanna give up on this jam, it's unique. Thanx for the advice brv. I'll post when I've got more info. One more question mate. The irresponsive pull from stand still in first gear, is that sprocket related as they isn't any slip from any gear once up to speed
  2. Vegan? What's that? Hahaha I'm South African brv. Land of biltong and rugby. About the that leak, big or small job in your opinion? Is it something to over look or walk away from. I'm not mechanical versed
  3. Just took her for a 30 minutes test ride. Wasn't bad at all however the do feel the carbs might need balancing or something. First gear is a nightmare from a full stop. Needs a lot of gas to get moving, while on the move the bike felt lighter than my 749 duc. That was a surprise I must say, and it seems to fall into corners - not something I'm used too. Maybe it's the gsxr front end. The power is cute at best but I'll not all about speed. It did have a flag spot when running low speeds between gears 1 to 3, character. The bad news arrived 20 minutes into the ride. I started to smell smoke coming from the front end of the engine, so I parked of to check. They was oil leaking from somewhere as illustrated on the pic:
  4. Thanx Bruteforce. Did some research locally (south africa), those gsxr/f are very scarce around here. Making a swap could be a challenge. Online might be the only option if I choose that route, risky I was say
  5. Hahaha are beemers that intimidating. I am taking the gs for a test ride tomorrow
  6. Same price! Not gonna lie but that gs 550 has got some tricked modern accessories and the finishes seems a lot clearer than the bmw. If it was about the looks alone the gs wins hands down. However for me it comes down to reliability as the final say! And that's why I've been search for your wisdom guys and girls
  7. Guys the radio silence isn't cool. I'm about to purchase a Gs550 by the end of the week. I'm really trying to learn as much as possible to avoid walking into a possible nightmare. I'm not well versed with older bikes, hence the reason, I'm searching for the following information: Reliability Cold winter starts and carb settings Service intervals 'General' fuel consumption Best fuel type; leaded 93, unleaded etc.. Thinks to look out for, red flags Performance (stripped to cafe racer trim; she's got gsxr front end and nc30 single side swingarm) And any other general but useful info. Help a brother out guys please. It's between the gs and a bwm r100! I'll probably leaning towards the r100, just more info and seems like a more powerful bike. My ears are open oaks!
  8. When running well and carbs balanced, what's the average fuel consumption per tank (gs550)
  9. For now I'll just have to get on with the 550 motor. Is it a reliable engine or one of those work on every weekend types. I haven't bought it yet, collecting some time this week/end. Advice on what to look out for?
  10. OK it's to confirm what I've read. The gs 550 swaps directly with a b6 and gsxr 600/750. Are those 750s the 1986 to 88 models, the slingshot models, please correct me if I'm wrong
  11. Wow thank guys for all the advice. Sorry for my rudeness, as you know my names Kenny. I'm from the beautiful city of Johannesburg, South Africa. Was living in Malta last year, don't like it. It's beautiful but not an island for bikers, to much traffic population, small (short) roads and I had to sell my duc 749 for my flight ticket. Not cool. Is that introduction enough for now.
  12. Haha what would you like to know about me mate.
