The Bodywork of my GS1000 was raced by Dirk during previous times. Also the swingarm was braced by him.

Dirk did that swingarm as well its from 3 different bikes

Although I think he is still trying to rebuild the yellow school bus

Had a bit more time to start getting the srad ready to race at first outing this season at donny and my sprayer  managed to speed up a lot and sort my tank

so following a bit of advice from dupersunc on how to stick it to the tank

Now looks like something from blakes seven

Carbs ultrasonically cleaned oil catch tank and electrics sorted tail unit down and stickers applied to the pearl white paintwork which was a pain to apply on the compound curves think I will get image works to do my spare bodywork

Few more pictures of the bike with its clothes on the upper fairing brace still needs to be made and some odd spacers for the brembo rear brake torque arm and add the top stripe to the fairing

its paint not a sticker so unfortunately not part of the sticker kit and it would be a nightmare to fit

The big race radiator first nicely inside the fairing and I won't bother with the fan

I have fitted a cut away sprocket cover and some concentric swingarm bushes that allow adjustment the swingarm pivot position

Not looking bad is it thats the silencer that nine w managed to weld the ti and oil catch tank and a friend made some braided hoses for me I think he tests them up to 100 bar so should be fine

Had a Bit of luck i have been looking on the webike website for a set of fcr downdraft keihin carbs but they are quite pricey and then added possible import tax gulp

this is because I had almost given up hope of finding some used ones and the added problem is they only sold the gsxr srad 750 wt for one year with carbs before going injection route and i wanted to avoid buying some r1 yzf zxr etc and having to take them apart to adjust the spacing to my gsxr

A notification popped up on a slingshot forum for some 39mm fcr carbs and the picture showed some downdrafts a deal was agreed and

6 days later I ve got them, very happy probably not enough time to set them up for my first race at Donington in three weeks but should be alright for combe in June

so bit of an update regarding the gsxr 750 srad race bike, finally go the bike to ray debbens to stick on the Dyno and check the carburation plus start looking at fitting the fcr downdrafts as usual ray wants to do a belt and braces and asks if i have done leak down test lately ?

follows awkward silence from me confirming i haven't hmm problem two middle cylinders no compression it transpires that the down side of external beam frame bike gsxr r1 etc is when you chuck them up the track at speed i quite often dislodges the cylinder head and buggers the gasket as the engine is hanging from in the frame

so now mad panic the strip engine out and check plus replace the head gasket .......... that sorted my bank holiday weekend for me hopefully nothing has happened and i am racing at donington park from the 14/16 may !!!

bit of an update on the srad race engine although getting the top rear engine bolt out was an utter pig to remove, but heat a windy gun and lots of plus gas managed to shift it i dont think it had ever been removed although some one had previously taken the head off

so first check the cam timing not quite sure how it happened but miss timed by one tooth out unlikely that happened when i decided to launch it at the water tower on my grass experience at cadwell and the cam chain is completely knackered, i didnt know you could get a manual cam chain adjuster with that long a bolt installed, as predicted the head gasket had moved when i came off and since the engine is out it would be rude not the give the engine a bit of a refresh

most off the valve have sunk into the head and have a huge lap and it has been skimmed, so a new cam chain, some valves seals etc new valve springs as i am a bit hard on engines and they are 25 years old and new set of rings which should be good to go

luckily i have an an alternative to suzuki exhaust valves £88 each s a bit strong obviously not classics enough yet although yoshi could supply a race set for £2k gulp

Whilst I was whizzing up and down the m6 for work I managed to drop into steve rsvfletch and he offered to help as I was very keen to have an alloy tank for my Srad including fitting the acc billet quick filler and steve has done a great job

seems a pity I have to paint it

Hi I used an aluminium foil used on turbos etc it had an asbestos type backing

but not self adhesive I used rtv mastic to stick it on very high temperature

You can’t use normal mastic it does work really well

Ok thanks. I asked as I have to line the inside part of my fairing that is close to the exhaust as well as under my (alloy) tank. Do you have details for the supplier?

Update so far I managed to do quite well for the 2019 season of formula Prostocks fp2 and won the championship including being presented with my trophy by Mr J Reynolds and all round nice chap

following on from my successful season and the fp1 and fp2 class rules changing I decided to sell the gsxr 750 and use the the big engined gsxr 1216 in the fo1 class for 2020

which also

meant I freed up s bit of space in the garage which does make like a bit easier I have been meaning to get around to finish off the spare gs1000 Yoshi after I had accumulated enough spares

i coped the Harris frame bracing and have most of the engine ready including straight cut primary gear

a friend copied and machined some Vance & Hines exhaust D stubs that ray Debben had lent me after he met Byron Hines and he gavel him the set

so after modifying and welding the exhaust headers I have now made the viper exhaust system fit the Billet D headers

I also have a rickman frame being repaired after a previous monkey had attacked it and badly brazed modification this is at Wasp near Stonehenge so looking forward to getting it back soon

I will post more pictures when I get it back

the an fittings in the swing arm bracing, are they part of an integral breather/catch tank? some top notch work on these bikes
