will a B12 engine go in a 1100 W Frame?

Recommended Posts

Thanks Jaydee. Just had a read and was some good info. I assume B12 motors are similar to 1100 oil boilers? as that thread is on GSXR motors?

I get the impression from what I have read that the W frames may have a bit more room than slingshot frames? so should make it easier to get a B12 motor in.

1127 and 1157 oil cooled motors have the same exterior dimensions. Like twins separated at birth. Except they're not twins, they're inline fours. :)

I have done this B12 into 750w conversion myself, back in the early 2000's. The bike was a beast and well worth doing the conversion in my opinion. There are a few compromises you have to make though so beware.

The water cooled motors are more compact, and the cylinder block is more upright. The oil cooled motor also has a wider cylinder head, so those two factors combined means the B12 engine was slightly canted backward in the frame (sump was not completely level). You can't really tell by eye, but trust me. This is so the cylinder head clears the frame downtubes. A proper conversion would mean re-engineering at least the front frame loop.

To make mine work I accepted the slightly canted back attitude of the motor, and used the lower rear mount as the starting point. It bolts up pretty well. Every other mounting point in the 750w frame had to be re-made to fit the B12 though.

The sump on the B12 (or 1100 oil cooled, same engine) has bolts in the oil galleries that will foul the lower frame rails, and so had to be ground a little to clear it. Again I accepted the compromises of a slightly thinner wall to the frame tube where needed.

It is a long story of how to fit it, but it can be done without major welding.

thanks for the info. much appreciated.

Freakspeed did one,not sure if he is on the here,he was on the old sites. On the old site,he put up pics of the engine mounts and what you needed to do.

And the Cross brothers did one, that was featured in Streetfighters :)

Great info folks, I shall start asap. Im waiting for bits for the SV hillclimb build so will crack on with this.Try and put up pics too. Although I am shite with technology,  unless it's a lathe, milling machine or welder.

Let the fetttling commence!

I have a 95W 750 frame and B12 engine waiting for this operation. Rear mounts have to be reallocated somehow as far as I can remember, it's been a while I've looked into this.

I've cut off rear mounts off frame and bottom cases are sitting in frame at the moment, I'll get pics when I'll get to bike.

Let's make water boiler great again:D (sorry if this insults some people somehow, I'm finnish and just thought it's hilarious)

I ended up binning that bike off with the knackered head but I am now thinking of replacing the water cooled engine in my wp turbo project with an oil boiler so exactly the same idea just different bike. I have been told it is a very tight fit and this seems to match some of the detail above. Be good to hear what you guys do with yours

Might seem a silly question. I have an 1100 w with a knackered top end, so was wondering whether to drop an oil boiler in it. I think B12 engines go in slingshot frames, but do they go in waterboilerframes?
