Dezza Posted December 15, 2025 Posted December 15, 2025 Anyone used zx-10r forks and yokes on an 1100 slingshot? If so, are there any pitfalls? I am guessing they may be too short. I need a set of forks for next year's project and to fit a fancy wheel and discs I need Kawasaki fitment for 300mm discs spaced 140mm apart. A possible alternative is z1000sx 10-15, but I need to get to a bike dealers with a measuring tape to make sure. Later models have larger discs so won't work with my wheel/disc combo. Thanks for any constructive input Quote
TLRS Posted December 15, 2025 Posted December 15, 2025 With radial calipers diameter shouldn’t be an issue? Might require the right calipers though. Have you looked at the famous ‘Sam’s forkchart’? You might get close to the 140mm with srad yokes and k3/6 thou forks. Forks should slot straight in and would increase width by 7mm. 1 Quote

Disc diameter doesn't usually make much of a difference except when going smaller. Going bigger is fine as spacers can be made but using forks from a bike designed to have either 310 or 320 mm discs would mean machining the caliper mounts on the forks (unless OEM spacers are used) , calipers or both and I don't want to do that. I want to use some 300mm Beringer discs I have as, well, they're Beringer and rarely seen on bikes built in the UK. 2 Quote
TLRS Posted December 16, 2025 Posted December 16, 2025 Hm yeah you’re probably right the oem don’t use spacers afaik. Maybe calipers are easier to machine then fork bottoms. If it helps, I believe all radial calipers have a offset of 22,5mm. Between center of the mounting bolts to the centre of the disc. Beringer stuff looks great. Especially amongst a sea of ebc and brembo dullness. 1 Quote
Dezza Posted December 16, 2025 Author Posted December 16, 2025 Only bike I klnow that had caliper spacers as OEM was the Ducati 1098 (I had one) but there may be more. The 1098 had whopping 330mm discs as stock so I assume the forks were initially designed for 320mm discs and then they changed their minds. But it made things easier to fit aftermarket 320 discs by simply removing the spacers. 1 Quote
Ted M Posted December 16, 2025 Posted December 16, 2025 Dyno Mite in Bournemouth used to sell Beringer. They fitted some to an Arse 1 it was a really weird set up with 4 floating discs and 6 pads. Apparently they were very good but quite grabby. 1 Quote

Dezza Posted December 19, 2025 Author Posted December 19, 2025 (edited) I have asked a breaker with some good condition Z1000 10-13 forks and yokes (and front wheel and discs) to measure the distance between the disc centres. Whether they can be arsed to do this I don't know but if they do and it's 140mm I'll probably buy a load of bits from them (not the wheel and discs though for obvious reasons). Breaker could be arsed and it looks like z1000 10-13 front wheel/brake dimensions are the same as 1st/2nd gen ZX-10 so I bought forks, yokes and front spindle. I am guessing the Z1000 forks are longer than those of a ZX-10. The top yoke also takes risers, which is good as i want flat bars. They are also in better condition that the majority of early zx-10 parts, which are 20+ years old by now. Edited December 19, 2025 by Dezza Quote
