Curved 14 row oil cooler

Was just tidying up some spare oil coolers deciding which to fit on my 1988 gsxr750.

Turns out the frame brackets are different between 1988 and 1990 gsxr750s. I assume the flat oil cooler of the 88 is taller. I'll make a bracket to fit it. I assume there were no fairing differences between 88/89 and 90/91 for the different coolers?

But, it turns out one of my curved coolers is 14 row. The one on my 1990 750, and the second spare are 15 row.

The fixings and inlets are exactly the same so I'm assuming the 14 row one is suzuki, but what bike had a shorter 14 row curved oil cooler?

Is the shorter one 1100?

I had assumed not, as I guessed the 1100 would ha e a bigger cooler, not a smaller one. Can't find any actual answers though, just searching Eblag and comparing photos.

Yeah, 1100 curved cooler is a row or two shorter.

Thanks.

Strange, I'd have thought the 1100 created more heat. Maybe the lower rpm limit keeps it cooler too. I suppose larger charge volume too? I don't know.

Couple of random thoughts on why the 1100 cooler maybe a row shorter

1/ the 1100 is taller so the head pipes will leave less room above for the cooler

2/ the actual cores of the cooler may be larger resulting in a greater capacity

3/ maybe it was some kind of homologation thing for racing purposes that the 750 had an extra row

I suspect option 1 is the reason. The cores, looking at them side by side, look identical.

yes there is.

Might be interchangeable but they're not the same.

Do you know what the difference is? When ordering fiberglass slingshot mids the only choice is usually 750 or 1100. Are the belly plastics the same or different as well?

on the '90-'91 the air vents are at the same level, on '88-'89 they are not.

'88 fairing (yes on a '90 bike O.o

belly pans are the same AFAIK.

Ah, look at that! I didn't know that either. If the uppers and lowers are the same, there can't be much difference in width. I wonder if it was just a style difference or if the clearance for coolers is affected.

Bike will probably get fiberglass fairings any way, maybe RR/RK style.

Thanks, I see the difference now. I love all the random obscure information people have on this site.

Although I am a Slingshot anorak there are still many random things I don't know.
