ggguilleggg Posted April 17, 2025 Posted April 17, 2025 Hello, My bike (suzuki gsxf750 k6) takes a bit more time than normal to lower the rpm to idle speed once I close the throttle. I heard that this could be caused by a weak mixture. I have recently put new spark plugs and they have a thin white dust like in the picture. Do you think I have to adjust the mixture? Thanks, regards. Quote
DAZ Posted April 17, 2025 Posted April 17, 2025 Oooh carb tuning over the interweb ask 5 people get 7 answers , seriously though plug chops as you are on about are not as reliable as they were due to the ethanol in petrol these days ( thanks you eco-mentalists ) and are usually done after a full throttle flat out run to check main jet sizing . First question is did the bike run ok when you got it ? If yes what has altered? Have the carbs been off ? Have the mixture screws been altered? Does the bike pull cleanly through the rev range? Do all plugs look the same ? My initial checks would be for air leaks, ( head to carb there's an o ring where the inlet rubber bolts to the head ) , esp if the carbs have been disturbed try spraying a bit of brake cleaner to see if idle speed changes If the bike doesn't pull smoothly at low rpm Up to say 4-4.5k check the pilot jet/mixture screw after that your into main jet could be a blockage or gummed up if it's sat a good while an the fuel has evaporated and left the crappy additives to fester ,either way it's carbs off for a clean up . If it's just one plug that looks lean then you know which carb is to blame 1 Quote
ggguilleggg Posted April 17, 2025 Author Posted April 17, 2025 Hello, I've only checked that plug for the moment. I bought the bike recently and has always behave like this but I did not took it very seriously. The bike behaves good in high and low revs, the idle speed is a bit inestable. I have not touched carburetors on this bike. I'll try that break cleaner trick, thanks. Also I'll check on the air filter, maybe is torn. Quote
Gixer1460 Posted April 17, 2025 Posted April 17, 2025 Ignore the air filter as it's pre throttles so can't affect AFR to degree required for diagnosis. Lots of stuff will affect carb running! A good & full service with everything back to stock if bike is basically stock - I trust you have a manual - if not, why not? Get one as they are essential! 2 Quote
ggguilleggg Posted June 1, 2025 Author Posted June 1, 2025 Hello, I have clean and sycronice the carburetors and now it is working fine. The inside of the carburetors was actually very clean without any obstruction in the jets, so I think that with only the syncronization it would have been fine. Than you all for the tips. 1 Quote
