Anders74 Posted April 2 Posted April 2 (edited) Hi! Im rebuilding my old -81 gsx750e with gsxr-750 -88 wheels. Now the original break calipers rear dont sit perfect over the break disc. I need to come down like arround 20mm on the disc. Will the bracket from gsxr750 -88 work on the gsx750e calipers and axels? = ) It looks like its not so long. I have 220mm break disc. Or any other idea? gs500 bracket maby? Thanks = ) Edited April 3 by Anders74 Quote
Gixer1460 Posted April 3 Posted April 3 Does the stock GSXR have a caliper bracket? Most OEM solutions will mount calipers to fork legs directly for rigidity! It is highly unlikely a 1988 GSXR caliper will mount to a 1981 GSX fork leg without DIY bracketary! A 220mm dia disc seems small for a GSXR - like you are using the GSX discs? In which case, why bother as brake performance will be exactly the same. Better solution would use whole GSXR front end - wheel, forks, yokes & brakes into the GSX chassis! Quote
Anders74 Posted April 3 Author Posted April 3 (edited) hmm But i use original swing and the axel from the swing to the calipers is on top..So the caliper need to sit above not under. Se image please =) Edited April 3 by Anders74 Quote
Anders74 Posted April 3 Author Posted April 3 Is there a break disc for gsxr 750 -88 that has bigger diameter the n 220mm? 230mm or 240mm? = ) Quote
Guest Posted April 3 Posted April 3 I had a similar problem, so I used a caliper & bracket from a 1990 (ish) GSX750F (teapot) that is same as a GSXR caliper, but above the axle. Quote
Anders74 Posted April 3 Author Posted April 3 TonyGee, can i use only the bracket to gs500 to my gsx750 caliper? Thanks for answer everyone! = ) Quote

Anders74 Posted April 3 Author Posted April 3 Im thinking of maby change the breakdisc for 240mm instead if i want to use the gsx750 -81 caliper. Now its 220mm. Quote
Guest Posted April 3 Posted April 3 Why are you determined to use that enormous boat anchor of a caliper!? Get a caliper & bracket that matches the wheel & disc you've got, make appropriate spacers if necessary, job done. Quote

I dont want the caliper original (gsxr-750 -88) becouse i need to use i like yours so i can use my swing arm. Of course i can change to Gs500 but still need to know it the 220mm disc will work. And the disc is 220mm. Yours discs diameter bigger right? Quote
Guest Posted April 3 Posted April 3 My disc is 220mm according to Google. 1988 GSXR1100. The wheel spindle diameter is the same as my original bike (1979 GS) so it all matches. If you choose a disc/wheel/caliper & bracket from the same bike, obviously it will fit, and there are other combinations that will work (for example wheel spindle diameter tends to be the same across many bikes) with some tweaking of spacers and maybe a new torque arm. I'm a bit confused now as to what you're asking, sorry Quote

Suzukian Posted October 29 Posted October 29 You could always cut it down to size, and have it Tig welded back together Quote
