canorthup Posted March 19 Posted March 19 Hello, I ended up with a professionally rebuilt 1978 GS550 engine and carb, but the person attempted to Frankenstein it with a 2007 GSXR750. So they cut the frame all up. Long story short, the frame is shot, and it does not even have a title. I bought it for some of the parts. Anyway, I hate to see the engine go to rot since it is ready to go and runs excellent. I found a 1980 GS750L bike with a title and blown motor for $300. The tank and everything look lovely; the motor is just shot. How much of a hassle would it be to make the motor fit? Obviously, it is smaller, so physically, I know it will. My concerns are mounting brackets and getting the chain to line up, or other things I am not even considering. Quote
wraith Posted March 19 Posted March 19 As you say the 550 engine is much smaller than the 750. You'd have to make new engine mounts front, back and bottom sides, if you use the bottom rear engine mount that's on the frame could make life a bit easier but this might pull the engine back so a standard exhaust wouldn't fit. You also will have problems with a airbox. Quote
