Newbie with GS550E project

Hello all, just a quick hello - I've been visiting for a while and thought it was about time I joined, seems like a great forum.  I'm from Burnley, Lancs, UK.

I bought a project 1979 GS550E last autumn and have been slowly working through a few jobs. The bike is a runner but not idling very happily, so getting plenty of practice wrestling the carbs in & out - what fun! And in addition I'm aiming to build another engine out of various spares that came with the bike.

So plenty to think about, and I'm sure I'll be back with queries but for now just wanted to introduce myself.

Thanks chaps, I'm aiming for back to original eventually - the eagle-eyed will have spotted that the engine fitted is a later CV carb, non-kickstart model, not correct for the year.  It wasn't running well when I bought it, I think the previous owner was defeated - I'd like to get it back on song but then recommission and fit one of the spare kickstart engines that came with the bike.
