Welding a crank

Being a welder myself i would have thought some form of prep work would be involved before welding it to ensure good penetration (snigger) but i am no expert in crank mods!!I once welded a two stroke single crank which was pretty straight forward as it had been balanced before welding and the crank pin prepped too.

My old tutor once told me an 'Expert' was this......EX-SPERT....'Ex'= as in  'has been' and Spert (spurt) is a 'drip under pressure' lol.

As in; piece for piece and lining it all up individually?

No chance I'd be doing this myself anytime soon, it's just the theory that intrigues me.

You need it apart to get access to the pins and webs to weld them........as the bearings are in the way.......

All depts. on how far you want to go with the welding..."factory is just about 25-30 mm on journal to the web" ......and they don't bother with the gear.....

A full tilt FB or PS crank is normaly pinned and fully welded.......
