Carb conversion..

Is it worth Mounting a set of gsxr750 slabby (vm29..?) carbs to my ‘79 GS1000 (1085cc..) looks like I need 40mm inlet rubbers with 60mm centre fixing holes, is there a common/recognised way of doing this..? would a later rubber like a 1980 GS (cv carb) fit.. the 2 inner carb centre to centre are 5mm wider than the originals so would need slight offset intakes..?

Or is there a more suitable (budget) upgrade from the standard carbs

TIA..x

Yes the gsxr 29mm carbs will work well.

Do you have the slide carb head or the latter CV head on your engine?

As there is a difference in rubbers you can use.

Thanks mate.. yes It’s the standard ‘79 ‘slide’ head. I do have a later one which I can swap over but that’s not gonna happen any time soon.. I can nick the inlets off it tho if that’s all I need..?

Are the fixings still 60mm on the later head..?

I've used b12 carb rubbers on the CV head and fitted both the b12 36mm carbs and gsxr 34mm CV carbs on

Did use a set of z1000j carb rubbers on a slide carb head then fitted a set of katana 1000 round slides and they where big xD. You need to slot the bolt holes a small amount for the z1j rubbers.

Hope that helps
