Hi All

Just purchased this 1100 from Grumpy 1260’s.

someone on here must be familiar with it and wondered if anyone could supply some history.

As far as we know engine is standard, it has Std carbs.

bandit forks and Gsxr rear end fitted , wavy armstrong discs an Hel radial conversion calipers.

It needs a bit of fettling as its been standing a while. But I am looking forward to getting it sorted.

if anyone has any background info that would be great.

GSX1100EFE, shouldn’t the first zero be a five?  Good looking bike

Only if yer 'merican and then you wouldn't understand the GSX bit either LOL! To us over here the whole family of 4V's 1100's are GSX 11's with the later ones known as EFE's or EF's. Less confusion as we had 2V GS1100's

Ok, I thought all the later style cam cover big 4v engines were 1150’s.  So I learned a little something

good looking bike

The last 1100 aircooled Suzuki straight 4 cylinder engine, which indeed has a different easily-recognizable cam cover to all the other 1100s, was 1135 cc as stock. It was used in I think three basic models that differed most obviously in the fairing they had: none, half, full. In the US (Canada??) they were called GS1150 E, EF, EFE and so on. Elsewhere they were called GSX1100 E, EF, EFE. The engines are the same as far as I am aware, they're all 1135 cc regardless of what the sticker on the side panel says (unless modified of course:)). And it's obviously the most awesome bike engine ever. Riding a bike with an EFE engine is an almost religious experience (I am biased here as I own one).

Thanks for the appreciative comments , I cant claim the credit as I have not done anything to it yet,

but have some plans to recommission it.
have a new YSS rear shock

different bars (as the clamps do not fit the fat bars currently fitted)

fix, fork seals,

fix sidepanel lugs.

clean out carbs.

tidy up the wiring

but keep the basic look the same.

On the wish list though are

std headlight (i dont like Led one)

( or maybe refit an original EF big round headlight)

std airbox.

so just keeping my options open.

Not quite.

They are called GSX1100E (no fairing), ES (half fairing), EF (full fairing).

Added to that is the model year, E = 1984, F = 1985, G = 1986.

So an 1100 EFE is a fully faired 1984 bike. But to keep things simple (?) we call all of them EFE. :D

just like people call a 1981 EX an ET  O.o

To be fair, Suzuki don't help much. You have 1980 MY ETs built in 1979, 1980 MY ETs sold in 1981, 1981 MY EXs sold in late 1980, EXs built with both silver and black engines. Then you have 'export' market ET/EX which were shipped and sold in countries other than the intended markets, and then the end run stuff from '81 which had all kinds of anomalies to run out the parts bins. xD

There's also a bit of confusion on the models.

1983 GSX1100ESD, twin shock, 1074cc engine with square cam covers and old style points cover like GS1000/850/750/550 and the GSX1100ET/EX/EZ plus the SZ models.

1984 onwards GSX1100EFE/ESD/ES,  Mono shock, 1135CC engine also with square cam covers. Different points covers too.

Often the 1983 ESD and the later mono Shock ESD get mixed up for aftermarket parts that dont fit the models.
