Got my self a early steel frame Spondon  says its F1R/10 on the frame.  Its been a bit unloved for the last 10 year sat in a damp shed. Man I got it from has owend it for the last 30 year's O.o. But it has a gsxr 1127 motor with only 10200 miles on it and thunder ace running gear. IMG_20211024_133045.thumb.jpg.345b10ccdbfacd1c502ae5475d00da72.jpg IMG_20211024_142121.thumb.jpg.3abcfe1319d4e462947dd6e856eb9d31.jpg  IMG_20211024_142142.thumb.jpg.5b82359a6ce70ecb02544f47e1c00f8c.jpg IMG_20211024_142236.thumb.jpg.3098e6f0763f93f97455249eb7e8a816.jpg IMG_20211024_142247.thumb.jpg.3536ecc3fac05826c0d3ce39b8ee32e2.jpg

It looks like it needs work, im guessing hes spliced the spondon swingarm front section to the arms of a chunderace swingarm, strange.

Needs a tone of work & yes the previous owner spliced the ace arm to the spondon one. Would love to know how it started life. I do know it was orange originally with thin cast alloy wheels, it also has various faring/seat brackets that haven't been usesd for a long time.

Ace(y) Any idea on what engine the frame was built for? It would guess either gsx1100 or kawasaki gpz 1100/z1000.

Man I got it from owend it for 30 years with the gsxr motor already fitted when he bought it. He thinks it had a gs1000 motor although I suspect it had a gsx1100 motor originally.

Not the same bike but found this picture in my old IOM TT photos. IMG_20211024_205639.thumb.jpg.0647b647e372f816a174b13324e1adef.jpg

There weren't many steel frames made for the larger capacity motors, and the co axial swings makes it rarer still I think. I've only actually seen one other, many years ago in B&B Suzuki in Lincoln, although I know there's others from photo's.

What about an EFE turbo Steve Burns style with all the chassis bells and whistles? Just a suggestion....:)

It has crossed my mind. I already have a mk2 b12 1216 turbo motor sat doing nothing with less than 200 miles on it.

I was at Bruntingthorpe when Burns was doing 150 mph wheelies on his but as said above, his was based on an earlier frame that did not have coaxial swingarm mounts. The steel Spondon frames do need an air-cooled motor though although admittedly good ones are not easy to source.

This one has had a oil boiler in for 30 years. The picture above of Burn's wheeling the blue and black one was re-built by Spondon with a gsxr1100 motor after  Burns trashed it. Last seen in Lancashire some where lol.

I do have a gsx1100efe motor and a gsx1100es motor but there heavy as well as expensive to turbo and I need to turbo this bike.

Have considered fitting a early gsxr1000k motor as well (y)

saw that posted on that there facey. hope you didn't pay full whack eh.

Loads of potential there for a dead cool oldskool built.

One thing if you plan to turbo as I did. Factor in the clutch cover to coax pivot point as if its anything like my coax then there is 1mm clearance so lockups are a no go. There are options like heavy springs but they won't hold much more than 170bhp which makes a turbo a little pointless. Mine even has the cut out for the mr turbo kit and still I wasn't prepared to go turbo draw through. stuck N/A.
