77 GS750 / 1135 project

I’ve started a project using my old GS750 and fitting an 1135 engine into it. I am at the stage where I have all but a couple of things off the frame. I want to fit my old gsx1135 swinging arm and linkage to it as it’s in my garage but I think I need to have the frame drilled out for the gsx pivot cos of the linkage and shock mount being only 2mm bigger than the 750 pivot spindle, the other thing is the pivot spacers I’ve read that having bronze top hats made up to fit the narrower frame. Right, my questions are, any frame bracing companies in the Berkshire area and who can make the top hats?

Yes 

It will be a nice gs750, some people don't like the efe and some do but they have a great engine and a lot of efe's got ripped apart just for the engine and other bits to go on older Suzuki's. 

Me, I don't like the standard Slabside gsxr but they where good for updating bikes, just like we do with bandits these days, time movers on  and each to there own

On the front OSS page there is a part for frame welding worth a good read.

Any mechanical fabricators will be able to make what size you need.

As to where to get the frame welded up, if you have the diagram off the front page any welding firm could do it. 3 things to look out for on the frame bracing, 1 the cross bracing at the front can get in the way of the exhaust down pipes, 2 the top rear of the engine cradle bracing can get in the way of the carbs and or fuel tape depends on tank and engine, 3 the bracing top of head stock can interfere with getting the tank no/off.

All the above helps to have the extra parts there so it can be made for that set up

And welcome. I am going to raise the rear a couple inches as Viz says but I'm afraid I can't help you with the details, it was built back in the mists of time by Mr Pip Higham out of The Village Bike Shop.

Hi all, I started out looking for a GS1000 engine after seeing that German orange GS750, then I read an article saying why not use a GSX1100 engine as they are a bit younger and I think the 1135 engine is a really good looking engine, so I started looking for a 1135 engine but it was easier to find a 1135 project bike than an engine. The GS1150 that you see was sold to me more complete than I thought and that leaves me back at square 1 looking for another engine to fill that bike. I am thinking about a GS1000 engine again. So many first world problems. Thank you for your thoughts and suggestions and Havoc, nice GS thou.

Can't claim anything for that, bought not built, it's a hoot to ride though, proper Pip Higham 1085 motor, it's no slouch

The GS750 makes a nicer GS in my opinion than the thou. Lower and lighter, easier to wheel about, handling is great with more modern forks, wheels etc.

Love mine! The 1085 8-valve is enough for me these days.

Don't think there is that much difference between 750 and the 1000.

Nice GS, GS7_11, I have plenty to think about, if I get a gs1000 engine I can have 2 bikes which is what I had back in the 80s, here’s a pic of my old gsx which I had to sell, I’ve always missed it.

Hi no class, I agree with you and changed my plans, I’ve spent some time last year (sunny days as I have hole in roof) working the efe as when I collected the bike it was more complete than I thought but when I started getting it back together it was not as complete as I thought. Anyway I think I have a complete efe now just needs a respray, frame powder coated and hopefully it’ll be ready. the GS 750 will have to wait for another day.
