Blubber Posted August 11, 2020 Share Posted August 11, 2020 Check if there is the an old or previously overtightened o-ring present ...as in fused to the engine side. It almost looks if its meant to be there but is not. You need to see bare metal on the spin on part for your new oil filter. Quote Link to comment

Fill with oil, lube the o ring, clean the case face, screw on hand tight - job done! Even had over tightened ones with filter case metal touching case face - no leaks! Quote Link to comment
Joseph Posted August 12, 2020 Author Share Posted August 12, 2020 No seal left on the block, i tightened it as per the haynes, hand screw till contact then 2 turns (almost) A mate mentioned the leak may be coming from higher up, i need to check the cam cover and oil return tubes, the engine being black and me working underneath yesterday evening i may have missed the oil is just dripping from the filter giving the impression that its at fault I'll have a look and keep you posted Quote Link to comment
Gixer1460 Posted August 12, 2020 Share Posted August 12, 2020 Could well be - have you serviced the valves / tappets recently as those seals on the cam cover are notorious for getting misplaced and oil leaking down the plug holes and out of the well drain hole! Quote Link to comment
banoffee Posted August 12, 2020 Share Posted August 12, 2020 Clean off all the oil with brake cleaner and compressed air or degreaser and wash and dry it. Then run it up until you find the highest point it’s coming from. Could be the oil tubes on the front or the rocker gasket but best to diagnose it properly. Quote Link to comment

Looks fine. - checked for seepage at the return tubes, top and bottom. Looks dry - checked beneath the exhausts at the drain hole area. Looks dry - removed the plug coils, checked in the plug well. Looks dry - checked the edge of the rocked gasket qll round, looks dry - checked cylinder to block and head to cylinder surfaces. Looks dry Stumped Quote Link to comment

Dezza Posted August 13, 2020 Share Posted August 13, 2020 "Hand tight, then 2 full turns" sounds like overtightening to me. Something like" hand tight, then 1/4 to 1/2 a turn" sounds the way I do mine but "hand tight" is a fairly subjective term. Quote Link to comment
